I don’t think it’s tacky, I think it’s quite sweet and a smart move of many family members might not otherwise hear the good news! I love mail and I can’t imagine your families not being thrilled to find this in your mailbox!

But… Let’s be real – they will likely toss it within 2 weeks. If you can make peace with this, do it!

Don’t think it’s tacky at all, but it is an unnecessary expense. As PP said, people will read it, get in touch with you to say congratulations, and then throw it out. But no, not tacky. If you wanna do it, go right ahead!

I think it’s unnecessary. I have never gotten an engagement announcement by mail.  Our local newspaper does engagement announcements etc so we put ours in the paper for those without social media.

ncmermaid :  Old school engagement announcements were done in newspapers. I’m old enough to remember those, but never heard of anyone mailing them. Mailing them seems very odd to me, and it actually seems quite attention-seeking, which sounds like the opposite of what you’re going for since you mention that you hate being the center of attention. But what other purpose is there for mailing people an announcement? People without social media will hear about it soon enough. And anyone who is not close enough to hear about it quickly, is not close enough to keep and treasure a paper announcement. I wouldn’t bother with this.

ncmermaid :

We plan to marry on 06.12.21 . That’s a very long time away ,it certainly  wont interfere with the  save the dates!

Are you intending to put the engagement pose pictures on  2019  Christmas cards ?  Won’t everyone who matters already know by  then ? I’d do the traditional announcement now in the newspaper .

It does seem more attention seeking than you thought. Post it on facebook and just let people know when you see them. Call the ones that you don’t see but want to tell.
