A friend (M) I’ve had since I was 4 is recently engaged. Her mother passed when we were young and the couple who raised her has since passed away as well. She’s never spoken of her father and literally has no other family that she’s aware of.
M’s FMIL wants to put an engagement announcement in the paper (she has four sons and always wanted a duaghter, so she’s excited). The problem is that everything she’s read says the groom’s family shouldn’t do this, but there’s never a reason as to WHY. M lives her FI’s city which is about 1500 miles away from her ‘home’ and I’m guessing her Future Mother-In-Law is only planning on putting the announcement in their local paper.
All that to ask-
Would it be crude for the Future Mother-In-Law to do the announcement?
Why shouldn’t the engagement announcement come from the groom’s family?
