Hi bees! I’d love to hear your thoughts on printed engagement announcements which are just that: announcements of the engagement, but not save-the-dates or invitations to an engagement party. Here’s the deal: Fiance and I have family and friends scattered around the world. We are planning an engagement party in December, primarily because it will allow us to celebrate when most everyone is already in the area for the holidays, maximizing the number of people who will be able to come and meet FI/see us both again without going out of their way. Basically, the plan is to make the ‘official’ announcement (on FB/IG/mass email) when Fiance comes to visit in June, with invitations to the party to be sent out in late fall.
However, much of my family is not on Facebook/the internet in general, and so my mother is lobbying to send out printed announcements so that my great-aunts, for example, are kept in the loop and feel special and included. I definitely want all of our far-away family members to feel as if they’re a part of this happy time, and I do think that they would appreciate a photo card in addition to a phone call. I’m just wary that an engagement announcement will come across as a gift grab when that’s not at all the intent. I agree with my mom in that I don’t want to forget the older generation who live very far from me, and I certainly don’t want them to feel left out. She’s right that they won’t see our photos because they don’t go online, and they won’t see the newspaper announcement (assuming my parents go that route), because they don’t subscribe to the same city paper that we do.
Anyone send out announcements – and if you did, would you be able to post them?
Any and all ideas would be much appreciated!
