- Wedding: August 2015 - Millcroft Inn & Spa
So a few weeks ago I shared my first post about planning a wedding at the same time as my SO’s sister. Most of the controversy was over the timing but there were a few remarks over is not being officially engaged. Well yesterday I took the day off from school and decided to study from home since midterms start next week (eeek!). SO was at work and I was spending some time with my Future Mother-In-Law for lunch when someone walked in the door… I never thought anything of it (there are 6 of us living in the same house) until I see the back of SO’s head walking into my room. After a few minutes of “what the heck is going on?!” I finally got to SEE him, standing there with a big ole’ sunflower and a treasure chest. This man woke up at 6 am to pretend to go to work so that he could finalize an amazing treat for me and I almost ruined it by stayin home (my bad!!). I’m pretty sure he slept in our car for a bit because we stayed up late the night before talking about my frustration that getting engaged was taking so long (not one of my finer moments). I was instructed to get ready and pack a bag with a few changes of clothes before we could start, but it killed me not knowing all the details right away!
Ill post pictures later but my first clue was a slip that said he would accompany me on the hunt to several locations… By now I knew where this was going but he one-upped me… After returning to the exact locations we walked around on our first date, my last clue of the day said “next location:secret”. I figured we would be going to Toronto since we never venture too far from home. Two hours later, SO pulls up to a gorgeous hotel overlooking Niagara Falls! By now I am freaking out (“how much did this cost?!?”) and Soooo excited. Well played, sir. He got my favorite wine and had everything we would need. Dinner reservations were made so we had time for a swim and a drink to relax and take it all in. So far the day had been really emotional and I hadn’t gotten a chance to just talk to SO because I was busy trying to figure everything out.
I was shocked again at dinner when our table was overlooking the falls at one of my favorite restaurants. I couldn’t eat at first because the enormity of all the work he’d done for this one night was so out of character but it seemed like he had just been saving these ideas for the right time. He actually suggested a go for the $15 glass of wine because “we only get to do this once in our life”. Oh how the anticipation was building!!
There was one catch, I knew he was going to propose but it wasn’t until later that I realized it wouldn’t be last night (yes, I am laying in our massive, comfy hotel bed writing this because I’m too excited to sleep!). So he’s hinted that it will be this morning and while he’s peacefully sleeping, looking like he has not a care in the world, I’m antsy! It seems surreal that one innocent date 2 1/2 years ago would lead to this and that I’M the lucky woman he chose. And as much as I want to enjoy every little detail, I want to get this show on the road already!!! 🙂 I thought the anticipation was bad before but oh my it’s unbelievable now! anyways I didn’t really know what to do with myself while I laid here so I thought I would share for all you fellow bees.
Did any of you have a two day proposal? How did you manage to contain your excitement?
