So for the record, I don’t really think this will magically make him propose. I’m just curious if anyone here has tried making Engagement Chicken?
here is the theory: growing up his momma probably made roasted chicken as a go to dinner. He probably has great memories of this, and when you make it for him, that little light bulb will go off. He will suddenly want to marry you and have lots of babies together that you will eventually roast chickens for… or something like that…
Do I think this would influence his proposal timeline? Probably not – I know it’s coming and am enjoying the anticipation. Will I make it soon anyway? YES – roasted chicken is delicious!
Any Engagement Chicken success stories out there?

I made it recently! No ring yet, but he said (a little while post-chicken) that it will happen by October 1st!

Haha I admit to doing this! I made it last year in February, he bought a ring in May, then proposed in July. I don’t think the proposal was BECAUSE of the chicken, obviously, but it didn’t hurt since he loves when I cook for him 🙂

I wanna make it now, just cuz it sounds good and I’m hungry!

I’ve made it. It’s a favorite for dinners now, he asks for it all the time.

Made it….did not work. BUT, I will say it was a great recipe and SO loved it….maybe I should try again 😉

I’ve made it like five times over the past three years… The first time was just to try it, but it’s delicious, so I couldn’t stop.

I spoil my man by making him engagement chicken like every week. He loves it.
I first made it in July 2011 with no expectations.. He ultimately proposed to me in April of 2012, but told me that he meant to ask me in autumn of 2011 but just didn’t have the ring yet..! Worth a try.. and it sure is delish!

I should try it. Our 7 year is next Monday. Might be worth a try LOL.

I did try it when I was waiting. However, I make big meals all the time so this was no different. I did get a ring 6 months later though… 😉 Of course, that was after we signed a 30 year mortgage together hah.

@houstonwhodat: I made engagement chicken on Aug 3. Since then the following has occured:
SO actively begain ring searching/saving and even asked his grandmother for his grandfather’s ring to look at (which at the same time was letting her in on his decision to marry me so kind of a big deal he wouldn’t have ask her if he wasn’t serious) AND confirmed that a proposal would be “within 6 months.” whereas before he never wanted to settle on a timeline 😀 He talks about it all the time and seems much more comfortable with the idea. He sends me texts calling me “future wife” and other passing comments. He’s very affectionate and loving, not that he wasn’t previously but there definitely has been some sort of anticipatory magic between us ever since.
I’d say there’s something to this chicken business plus I can’t wait to tell SO about it after we’re engaged. He’s gonna die laughing and think I’m nuts. But, hey, it’ll have worked by that point so who gets the last laugh now! 🙂

TO – houstonwhodat: You might want to also try another great recipe out there making the rounds that also has an “Engaging” reputation… and it is relatively easy to make.
Rachel Ray’s “You Won’t Be Single for Long Vodka Cream Pasta” = http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/you-wont-be-single-for-long-vodka-cream-pasta-recipe/index.html
This one also works for those who are Vegetarians… just switch out the Chicken Stock with Vegetable Stock
Hope this helps,
PS… Lol, of course individual results will differ (Proposal or not)… BUT I will say that the meal is truly delicious.

I made the chicken in July and I think he was on to me. While it was cooking and I was running around the kitchen he was asking, “what, are you trying to show me that you’ll be able to cook when/if we get married?”
I laughed it off, not sure if he meant anything by it or if he did if it was good or bad lol
The chicken came out good, but just a tip, don’t use as many lemons/lemon juice as they say. It came out too sour (but still yummy and very tender)

I haven’t tried “engagement chicken”… However I did make Thai Chicken with rice, then some very snazy dessert, and BAM! Two years later and we are just waiting on the ring to be made and arrive lol! Although SO does claim that he knew he could never get rid of me after I made him chicken the first time, now it’s all he ever wants!

I didn’t — but Fiance also doesn’t eat chicken, so I guess it wouldn’t have worked for me, haha
