He took me 100% by surprise. Still in shock and it’s been two weeks!
After assuring all my friends (and fully convincing myself) it wouldnt happen until at least Christmas, he ended up proposing in the last week of our 6 weeks in Europe. I had such an amazing time because I wasn’t expecting it at all – he said he wanted to ask my Dad first and the next time we see him is at Christmas. Little did I know he called him from France while I was in the shower!
It was the most perfect, low key day of my life! We were in the middle of nowhere with only bicycles as transport, no access to supermarkets only 2 shops a 6km ride away! We hired a tiny boat to go up a canal in this area nicknamed the “Green Venice” (something I had planned – he just knew that’s what I was looking forward to the most on our trip) and he offered to do all the rowing while I took pictures and read out the history of the place to him (I joked about being like a princess). Then about halfway through the boat ride he stopped and came and sat next to me and started saying all these lovely things. It wasn’t until the second thing he said that I noticed his voice sounded funny – Nerves! That the thought ocurred to me that he might propose!
Next thing I know he asks ” Will you marry me?” and pulls out my Grandmother’s engagement ring (gifted to me a few years back for xmas, which he had taken from my jewellery box) and I think I said “Yes!” before I even saw a ring.
The fact that he proposed with my grandmother’s ring as a stand in for the real ring (yet to come!) knowing how fussy I am with jewellery was so special and unexpected really makes me realise how well he knows me! And now we get to go ring shopping! Little does he know, that won’t take long because I’ve already done all the looking hahahahaha
After our little boat ride we went back to our cottage and celebrated with French wine and cheese – heaven!
