I don’t have the best relationship with my FI’s immediate family. His mother specifically doesn’t care for me, and his dad, to keep the peace in his household generally is quiet though likes me much more. His dad’s family, grandfather, grandfather’s cousin are all very sweet to me.
I got a call last week from FI’s grandfather’s cousin. They said they had my address wrong and they wanted to clarify, as they were attempting to send us an engagement present. They mentioned it was a box they were sending. All week I have been wondering what it could be and it finally arrived today!
This large box arrived and when I opened it it was full of paper and bubble wrap. In the letter she explained that they had given us an antique (1900s era) family monogrammed tea set. There was another, larger tea pot and a candle stick. It’s so beautiful and I’m sincerely touched.
FI’s mom is going to be upset that I have family heirlooms but otherwise, I’m very, very happy to have been given this. I can’t believe they gave it to us. I’m so happy to finally feel like I’m going to be a part of his family and be trusted with their belongings. Seriously – so happy!
Without further adieu, here’s a picture of our very first pieces of china!
