Ladies, I just got engaged (yaaay!!!) and couple people have told me that after a man proposes it’s costumary to give him a nice (euphemism to say expensive, since he spent so much on a ring) gift from the bride-to-be. Is there such a tradition? Did you guys gve something to your FI? If so, what was it? How long after the proposal did you give it to him?

I’ve never really heard of it as a tradition (maybe that’s a regional/cultural thing?) but I gave Darling Husband one. It was a playstation and computer monitor. I probably would have preferred to give him something more classic and timeless, but it was what he wanted! I thought it was only fair he got something to mark the occasion 🙂

Hmm…I’ve never heard of that either, but I did pay for both our wedding bands; didn’t seem fair that he had to buy two rings that were seven times what his one ring cost.

I have heard it’s traditional to buy a man a watch. I tried to buy mine a watch, but he didn’t like it (and he never wears a watch, anyway), so I ended up returning it. I’m going to get him a good quality frying pan (he’s a chef, so I know he’ll use it), but he has to pick it out because I don’t know what kind of pan he wants.

I’ve never heard of the tradition but I did buy my Fiance a gift because I don’t think it is fair the guy is supposed to buy the e-ring.
I let him choose between three video game systems – XBox, Wii and PS3. He chose a PS3, which I was happy about because it has a blu-ray player.
