i know my boyfriend is going to be proposing soon, i’m obviously just not sure how “soon” that will really be. i’ve been thinking about it a lot and i would really like to get him an engagement gift. i was thinking maybe a nice watch? does that sound too corny? i’d like to get something relatively soon, so i can carry it with me wherever we go and when he pops the question, i can surprise him with the gift. π
any ideas on gifts??? has anyone else done this before?

I think watches are a very common engagement gift for men! Not corny at all. My husband opted for a table saw instead. LOL!
I ended up getting him a Tiffany money clip as his wedding gift, since he has a special place in his heart for them. =)

I think a watch is a great gift, you can always have it engraved for him with a really personal message. I also like the money clip, but guys either use them or they don’t. My guy does and I may have to look at that.

A watch is always a great gift. If Mr. Hedgie weren’t so good at losing or breaking cheap watched I would have certainly gotten that for him! (Actually, I didn’t get him any engagement gift. I didn’t know you were supposed to. We just went back to our apartment while we waited for my ring to get resized and… well… I guess he did get a gift. lol)

thanks everyone π
@moffy: love the money clip idea, though he’s not really big into those. he could be though if i got him one! haha. table saw? awesome! anything that’s simple and meaningful works! π
@tskjewelry: I LOVEEE the engraving idea! never even though of that
@Awaken: thanks for the neat idea! i LOVE etsy!! i have my own shop too!! i will definitely be looking more into your idea.
@ms hedgehog: HAHA! your post made me giggle. π i guess it’s not mandatory or anything to get a man an engagement gift, but i’d really like to. we’re completely equals and like our relationship to be such, so i’d like for him to have something as well. π

I got Fiance an acoustic-electric guitar and added a metal guitar pick with a custom message pressed in, and attached it to the back of the guitar head. He already had a watch and it was nice because he knew I had it, just like I knew he had the ring. He could sympathize with my waiting!!

I decided to get my Fiance some custom made cufflinks from etsy he will (hopefully) wear the day of the wedding. He proposed to me on my birthday last year, and that date is coming up again soon, so I will surprise him on my birthday with the gift as a 1 year engagement present!

After he jokingly complained that I get a (multi thousand) dollar ring, and he get’s NOTHING… I secretly bought him a watch I know he’s had his eye on. I won’t carry it with me, but it’s squirreled away waiting for him to pop the question π

My family bought my Fiance a really nice camera for our engagement. We have a pretty traditional family, so his family bought me some jewelery to wear for the wedding. It was only appropriate that he got something equally as extravagent. They were going to get him a watch, but we all agreed he’d have more fun with the camera, plus it’s nice to be able to document your engagement and honeymoon w/ beautiful pictures!

Fiance wanted an engraved dog tag since I got him a watch for our 1 year anniversary.
I let him pick out the dog tag and engraved the date we officially started dating, engagement date, and wedding date on the back.
