@claireos: Maybe you feel differently, but I definitely don’t think the ring makes the proposal. My Fiance proposed unexpectedly, but without a ring, because he knew I’d want to pick my own anyway. I was ring-less for a month and nobody questioned the engagement at all. I’m sorry you had such bad service though πŸ™

@claireos: Any big corporate office you can call? Pester and pester until you get what you are paying for. Did you already put down money? Could you get it back?

@claireos: glad to hear that you guys only lost time on this and not any money, which would EVEN FURTHER delay the engagement process.  You guys definitely should move on, personally I would not want the ring I am going to wear on my hand for the rest of my life to have been crafted by people who care so little about what they do and what their product symbolizes

Gosh that sounds like your having a really bad time – hopefully they will pull through though for you and you will get that ring you have been waiting for, and then it will all be over! πŸ™‚

If you want to do a little comparison shopping, try Quinn’s Goldsmith in Woodbridge–that’s where we got my ring done, and it took about 2 weeks.  They do excellent work, if you’re not too far away.

@claireos: it’s definitely disappointing, seeing how the past several weeks you’ve been under the impression your special ring has been being made, and feeling the excitement of knowing that it could ready any day!  Try to think though, how much more disappointed you would be if they did finish the ring and your SO paid for it and presented you with it, and it was an ugly piece of crap that wasn’t anything like what you wanted!!! πŸ™‚

Man – I’m sorry to hear about that cruddy situation.

I was going to suggest a proposal without a ring, but since you and your SO want one, what about if you pick out a wedding band that would match with the engagement ring you want, and your SO uses that to propose with? You could wear it to mark your official engagement   until you can get your more detail-specific ‘engagement’ ring made later? (Then you’d switch and use the first ring as your wedding band.) – This option is both non-traditional AND traditional in different ways.

I hope you guys find a way you’re happy with soon!

What a nightmare!  I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through all of this.  It’s a good thing you didn’t give them any money!  What a nightmare THAT would have been!

Hopefully you find a good local jeweler who works quickly.  I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

SO and I are actually going through a very similar thing. Our jeweler is a small local shop, and he is TAKING FOREVER!!!!!! to get back to us on the most simple questions. He is a very nice man so I feel bad hounding him all the time and try to let him contact us but it’s so frustrating! UGH.. I hope you have better luck. At this rate you’ll find another jeweler and have your ring completed and ON hand before my jeweler ever emails me back with my tcw OR Sideview !!!

That turned into a rant/ vent.. haha anyways, good luck !!!

I would cut my losses and go see another jeweller.  I know it will be more time spent as your starting the procss all over again but I think it is worth while to find a jeweller you love and stick with them.

I would call or go in one more time after telling them that other jewelers are willing to do things faster than they are!  I would give them store names and time periods that these other jewelers said they could make your ring.  Make them scared that they are going to lose money on this ring!  Make sure they know that you will go elsewhere if you don’t know XY and Z immediately.  After working in retail for as long as I have, this is the last thing anyone who is selling something wants to hear.  Use it to your advantage!
