In my experience, the engagement party is generally within around 4 months of the couple getting engaged. The only time I have heard of the party being helf 6+ months after is if they’re having a long engagement. We got engaged in late September 2015, had our engagement party in late November 2015 and are are getting married in December 2016. Personally, I would find your FSIL’s party to be a little strange because it’s so close to their actual wedding date.

Since their wedding is so soon it is strange to have the engagement party then. BUT I look at as a way for the fam’s too meet before the wedding. My FI’s mom’s/parents threw one for us about 2.5 months after we were engaged…I had never been to one. Niether had my family. It was my immediate fam and their fam and extened fam and some close friends..a way to get families to meet before the wedding.

But I’m with some other posters…not a fan when there is a bridal shower, bach party, wedding, etc BUT she wnated it, so we did it.
