- Wedding: October 2012
I just had my engagement party yesterday and it was so much fun. We are not your traditional couple since I am carribean and my Fiance is American of Polish/Irish heriatage. I had a full say in my party and help planned it since my Matron on Honor is in England and my Maid of Honor is a nurse that works crazy hours. We used the $ that everyone gave us for getting engaged to have the party. I learned alot from helping plan this party. I was so worried about how are famillies were goign to react to each other but it went really really well. I made a few mistakes which was great but I can learn to fix it for the actual wedding. My family is always late and his is always on time so I was very suprised when I got a call from my sisters saying everyone was there on time.
I learned from helping plan my party the following tips:
Do not stress over small things because everyone is there for you and will be very supportive.
Do not expect to get all the $ back that you spend because people do not always think giving a gift is a requirement.
If you have younger teenagers as siblings do not expect them to care about your wedding day as much as you because all they care about is being on FB n texting.
Weddings are really stressful but one you realize that its your day and to just do what is important to you then it should be less stressful.
Do not have parties to impress people because no matter what you cannot please everyone.
I hope my post will help a few brides because I know this engagement party was driving me nuts. I am really happy I had it because it prepared me for what the real wedding will be!
