I’m not sure if this is the right place to post, but our engagement party is in May. As a long engagement bride, this is a big deal for Fiance & I and we are throwing a big party (I’m in Australia so engagement parties are almost always thrown by the couple). I went and found a gorgeous Alfred Angelo dress that happens to be a bridesmaid dress but I was in love. I think I’d definitely describe my style as vintage – for the wedding, engagement party and just everyday life – and the vintage feel of this dress really drew me in.
Basically, I tossed up between a “mushroom” colour and a fuschia colour (the party will be fuschia and teal decorations). I decided in the end the mushroom colour was more vintage (and the colour that was available to try on) and I didn’t want to “match” the party. Now everytime I look at the photo of me trying it on, I feel washed out and stupid for not sticking to a bright colour. I really don’t want to look at photos and someone else wearing a bright colour looks better and more eye catching.
On to the photos…
And here on the AA website you can see “cameo” (colour above) vs Hot pink aka fuschia.
I’ve ordered the dress, and now I’ve got no idea what to do. This was my inspiration board – vintage styling and red lips with lots of blingy jewellery. Do you think that is enough to make me look nice? Also, should I stick to pale skin or get a light tan so I’m not so washed out?
Thank you so much for any help you can offer bees!

I think the color you picked is beautiful

I was thinking about having my bridesmaids wear that dress!

@ParisM: Your skin is beautiful, no need to tan. I say play up your lips with a great color and make sure you have bronzer and check during the party to make sure the bronzer/lipstick hasn’t disappeared.
If you color your hair, maybe go a shade darker for the party for more contrast.
Dress is lovely.

@MeiFrancis: Thank you!
@RunnerBride13: Really? It’s incredible 🙂
@BeeBiscuit: Thank you, that’s really nice of you. Bronzer is a good suggestion and I think red lips are necessary. I’m getting my makeup done professionally, so I’ll ask for long lasting.
Wow, I didn’t think of colouring my hair darker… I’m not sure, I’m trying to get gradually blonder for the wedding, but I can definitely see it suiting that dress and it makes my blue eyes pop too. I might get a semi colour 🙂 Thank you, you’ve been sooo helpful.
If anybody else has any suggestions I’m still totally open to ideas 🙂

um, I love that dress on you. I totally get that vintage vibe, don’t think think a bright color would’ve been quite the same! I picture really romantic hair and make up with a bold red lip! No need for a tan.. You will look amazing! Love it

@ParisM: I love the dress on you! You look fantastic!

@ParisM: Yeah, I loved it but I don’t want them to all to wear the same dress and we didn’t like the other one in that line.

@MrsRichard: Thank you! So glad you get my vibe! I feel much better now, I think that bright colours might be my comfort zone and neutrals like this are new territory 🙂 Thank you so much for your help and reassuring words 🙂
@pengoala: As above, THANK YOU 🙂 I really feel much better about the dress now. Now just to wait for it to arrive!
@RunnerBride13: Awww, sad it didn’t work out. Then again, it is pretty expensive for a bridesmaids dress and I’m sure you found something else beautiful 🙂 xx
