@MissMandy82x:  I don’t know the official etiquette on this, but in this day and age I think it’s fine, especially as a casual get together. You should do it and have fun!

We got engaged last January and will have our wedding in October 2013. We are having our engagement party exactly 1 year before our wedding (so 8-9 months after proposal). FI’s brother and SIL also did this. We wanted to have a get-together for the families and friends to get to know e/o better and celebrate! I say go for it!

We have now had two engagement parties.  One we planned and a surpise one from my family from out of state.

The first was 7 months after our engagement (about a year before the wedding) and the second was 9 months after the engagement.

IMO having a party is NEVER a bad idea or rude unless it’s like hey somebody plan this and make it epic.  But bringing people together is classy!

I got engaged in late April, and our engagement party is in October! We had a lot going on this summer – my sister got married in late June, FI’s parents were traveling in August, so we picked a weekend in October. No one’s said anything about it to me!
