I just thought I’d get a few ideas from you about what to expect from my engagement party? There are going to be about 75 people coming anytime between 2-6pm, and we’re serving heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Do people bring gifts? How long will people stay, do you think? Either way, I’m excited to see everyone and celebrate our engagement!

@napabridekelsey: Im having my party this Saturday I am kind of wondering the same thing as to how long they will stay. I think for the most part if it is an afternoon party (mines at 2) people will stay just a couple hours. As for gifts my sister the MOH did a collection from our entire bridal party for our Flutes and our cake Cutting set that me and Fiance picked out. My Mother-In-Law and My mom asked about our Unity Sets and what we wanted so I picked that (were doing the Unity Sand) out as well and let them know. Everyone else that have asked about gifts I told them gift cards to Michaels or Hobby Lobby for all of my DIY projects to come. Have a great time!!!

Dont expect a lot of gifts, but yes, people will still bring there. It’s one of those things where people are unsure if they do or don’t, so some will just to be on the safe side. But, ya never expect them!
And really, its a time for people to come up and congratulate you both! They’ll be asking questions like “have you picked your dress?” “what colors will it be?” “Do you know the venue yet?” All wedding related questions.
And also, expect to be center of attention. Our engagement party happened so that the families could meet (after 7 yrs of living together, they had not met, believe it or not). We had a separate party for our friends and family (but that was just an all-out shindig!) Just expect to be busy – it will fly by very quickly; but you’ll love all the attention! lol

People might bring you gifts, but that’s not to be expected. Is it more of a party or open house? People may come and go between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00, depending on how the invite was worded. 🙂

My party went amazingly! We ended up having about 80 people come, overall, and they came and go as they pleased.
We got about 5 bottles of wine, a few really nice gifts, and about 700 in gift cards. Fiance said we should have more engagement parties before the wedding! 😉
I also posted a few days ago the dress i was planning on wearing. Turns out, we had a freak heat wave and it was 90 degrees where i live, and had to change the dress! Here’s a few photos from the party, and of Fiance and I 🙂 (sorry for the quality – cell phone pictures!!)

We had our engagement party about 2 weeks ago and unfortunately, we EXPECTED gifts and got none. On the other hand we had LOTS of fun with our friends and family. It was nothing too stuffy – food, drinks…LOTS of drinks, a DJ and partying all night! I’ve attached some pictures.

@weddingdiva-in-training: aw your party is gorgeous! I think the gift-giving is definitely dependent on your location. I see that you’re in GA, so I wonder if it’s not customary to give gifts at e-parties.
Where I live, EVERYONE works in the wine industry, so the wine gifts were expected. The money, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise!

We had our engagement party in October starting at 4:00 and with an open end time and about 90 people. Most people came between 4 and 5 and stayed till like 7 or 8. Some close friends ended up staying much later and helping us clean up and then to hang out some more. I was not expecting any gifts but I think we got something from almost everyone (bottles of wine, picture frames, money, etc.).
It was overwhelming because I was never the center of a party like that before and I am glad I got to experience it before the wedding. I had to mingle and talk to everyone that I barely got to eat anything! It was an awesome time though and people are still saying that they had so much fun and they are looking forward to the wedding!

@hjg0126: I totally agree with you about having this before the wedding. It definitely gave me an idea of how much i’ll have to mingle and be social! It was nonstop.

@weddingdiva-in-training:Sorry you guys didn’t get anything. Obvi I wouldn’t demand/expect anything as a host but as a guest, I wouldn’t show up completely emptyhanded to something like this. WOMP.
