Enjoy your own engagement party and try to avoid viewing this situation as a kind of competition or rejection.  Besides, intimate affairs can be even more special – you get to spend more time with the people who really matter-not to mention the money you’ll save with a smaller crowd. I’m sure these relatives who turned down your invitation want to honor their great uncle and did not want to disappoint you either.  However, since most weddings generally involve numerous parties, i.e., other engagement parties, bridal shower, bachelor parties, and the big wedding day itself, there will be plenty of opportunities for them to celebrate with you!
