We finally scheduled our engagement photos after being engaged for 14 months! The shoot is scheduled for May 25th at an historical mansion with multiple gardens and a natural meadow. We’re pretty casual people and don’t get dressed up unless there’s a wedding or funeral and I have zero fashion sense, usually opting for comfort above all else. I originally wanted to wear jeans a cute top but Fiance is insisting that we dress up a bit. I agreed to wear a maxi dress because I HATE showing my legs (I would never feel comfortable in a short dress) and finally found one that I like. Fiance hasn’t chosen his outfit yet as he’s waiting for me to decide and will wear something complimentary. I’m worried that a maxi dress will be dated in a few years or that it’s unflattering or won’t photograph well. Your opinions please 🙂
I will also add that the dress was additionally appealing because it’s navy, which is our main theme color, and becayse my FI’s ring features paisley engraving.

I think the dress looks very pretty on you. I am wondering if the print will look outdated in a few years? It’s hard to tell. Although, since the print isn’t everywhere on the dress, maybe it’ll be fine.
Do you think you could find a completely navy maxi dress?

After talking to my Fiance last night, I’ve decided to wear a some nice black pants and a cute top instead. I’m just not comfortable in dresses (except my wedding dress) and if I have to put up a poll on the Bee I’m obviously not happy with it. Thanks anyways!

ju5tdance: I am in the same boat as you! I dress up for work, but other than rare special occasions, Fiance and I are in casual wear. I hate showing my legs too and self conscious about my arms, so I’m clueless as to what outfits we’ll wear for our shoot.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I’m glad you chose to wear pants and a cute top instead. Don’t get me wrong, I think the dress is super cute, but if you’re not comfortable wearing it, it’ll definitely show in the photos.

ju5tdance: The fit is nice, and the style is great but I think you would regret wearing that pattern. Your location sounds naturally very beautiful and I think something in this style in a plain colour or light fabric would look absolutely stunning on you. It might be a little busy with this pattern.

I like the dress, but not so much for engagement photos. It shows a bit too much cleavage for my taste and I think something shorter would translate as more “fun” in your pics.

ju5tdance: I wouldn’t use it for the engagement photos. I like that you’re going with something that you’re comfortable in and is ‘you’. BUT! I did want to say that dress fits you well and you look great in it. I’d keep it for the summer.
