Ok so we are taking our e-pictures on saturday 12/20/2014 and..
I DONT HAVE A LOCATION!!
We were going to shoot downtown san jose around all the christmas lights but… we went to check it out this weekend and it just looks terrible!!! Can someone give me a suggestion?
We actually could do 2 locations – one more casual and one more date-night-ish but I would like them to be close together. We are also looking for a place maybe with christmas lights? We love this season and wanted to encourperate it into our photos.
Your suggestions are SOOO appreciated!!!

Santa Cruz Beaches are really pretty- and the boardwalk has the vintage arcade sign and the old fashioned theater lights at coconut grove are cool too. The boardwalk also has Christmas decorations up but the boardwalk itself is not running…Another thing you could look into is the roaring camp Christmas railroad…its a train themed with a bazillion Christmas lights, Santa and elves… And hot cocoa!
Just a few Christmassy suggestion! PM me if you want any more details!

Does your photographer have any suggestions? We just took some fall engagement photos, and our photog (based in San Jose) took us to this random park right near the airport, but the photos are incredible. A skilled photographer often can make places that seem less than savory look incredible. Example (and excuse to post ephotos): behind this awesome fall foliage was a chain link fence, and a basketball court
Similarly, my friend just got married at her church and her ‘getting ready’ photos was in the small room where mothers can nurse their babies. There were rocking chairs and baby swings everywhere, but the way the photographer framed the shot, you’d never know.
I realize that doesn’t directly answer your question. I agree with PPs who suggest natural spaces, but if you’re looking for Christmas lights, there are a bunch of suggestions on sites such as these:
I also thought about Santana Row–maybe doesn’t scream ephoto location as-is, but seems to have some beautiful lights at night for the holidays, and the buildings that aren’t stores are nice. Good luck with your search!

I love Downtown Palo Alto (University Ave) at night.
For natural locations, Half Moon Bay, Muir Woods, the Marin Headlands.

You should totally take them at Santana Row! It’s so charming with their cafes and Christmas lights right now. Totally date night and they have this really colorful artistic wall with fake doors which make a great backdrop. It’s perfect!

If you want something more natural and woodsy (think green and trees) shoot over to Villa Montalvo in Saratoga! Hope this helps.

I was going to say Santa Cruz like a PP. if you go to the board walk, stay AWAY from the beach. It’s disgusting. We did ours, and will do our wedding, in the santa cruz mountains. There is so many beautiful locations with redwood trees around here.
For Christmas lights, is Christmas in the Park not pretty this year? other bees mentioned Santana Row, and I agree. I bet it’s gorgeous just now. Golden Gate Park? Or Sausalito, I bet it’s all decorated, and it’s right on the water. Bundle up if you go there, it’s cold with the wind!
