Who has done or is doing engagement photos?
We weren’t going to but an engagement session is included with our photographers package. So I want to make it as fun of a process as we can. I think that I don’t take good pictures and he thinks that he doesn’t take good pictures. What are some good ideas so that we can be sure to look and feel our best? I figure this will be a good practice session for our wedding.
As for location, we live on a small lake so I’m thinking we can get some good shots there. Also, Fiance has a Harley so I’d like to incorporate that somehow. My Fiance and I are both shy extroverts (no joke). It takes us both a while to loosen up with anyone that’s not close friends or family. And Fiance is always worried about looking cheesey and dorky even though we both are cheesey and dorky! So what are some ideas that you have that will help us get some shots that show off the fun-loving, adventurous, and witty people that we are?

I think you and your Fiance should go to the site before the meeting time and walk around and get comfortable walking around etc. Once you are relaxed and laughing talking or just cuddling it helps. My Fiance and I took our best pictures at the end of the shoot cause we were so relaxed around each other the camera didn’t matter anymore.

Check out your photog’s portfolio to get an idea of what kind of shots and styles you like. Communicate this with your photog so that they can capture what you want. Also, don’t be afraid to get goofy and try different things. Wear comfortable clothes that make you look and feel good.

You should meet the photographer first so he/she can get a feel for you and let them know about your insecurites in advance- this way they can make the best out of them.

I’m glad you’re doing the engagement session. We always prefer to do the engagement session so it gives us a chance to get familiar with the couple before the wedding day.
Maybe you can think of some funny stories of you & your Fiance to share with your photographer, so you are in a more relaxed mode and also gives your photographer a chance to know you two as a couple better.
But honestly I’m sure your photographer will give you directions and help you loosen up. Don’t worry to much about it, just relax and prepare to have fun. That’s what the whole engagement session should really be about.

Try looking for photographers who are doing either a free engagement shoot or shoots your photos first before you have to pay a dime!
We actually got to try out this photographer and his wife out when they were offering free engagement shoots. My fiancé and i didn’t have to pay a thing unless we liked their style. And because we got to shoot with them early on, we know them better and they’ve made it down to our final 3 picks.
If you guys are interested, i can find get their contact info for you.
Good luck all!

On the other hand if you know his style etc. is it fair to use them for free photos and than change your mind? I would not try to use anybody time unless I am pretty sure that I want this person to perform this service.
