It depends on what he’s going to give you, how long the shoot is going to last, what equipment he has, how much experience he has, do you like his work, etc. I didn’t have an engagement session, and looking back at, I would have hired a professional to do them… I would have paid from $200 to $400 for an e-session, it would just depend on how much I liked their work.

Do you think your friend is expecting payment? (Think: if you were doing a kind favor for a friend, would you expect payment?)

I suppose it also has a bit to do with your friendship – is this a dear friend or more of an acquaintance? For a dear friend, I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving a lot of money (kind of awkward right?), so I would lean towards perhaps $100 and a nice dinner out. For an acquaintance, perhaps $200.

Definitely depends on the experience of the person taking the pictures.  We have a professional photographer taking ours so it was included in the wedding package. If I were to pay someone else to do it, say 2 hours, 30ish pictures I’d say $150-$200.
