FantasticFawn:  it was recommended we wait until April for it to get green (we live in Texas and winters here rnt exactly pretty). We r having two sets done with two photographers  The first one we will just reschedule it if rains, the second one we actually have a date and a back up date if it rains.  And book them now. A good photographer gets booked fast.

Most photographers lump in e-sessions with their packages. I’d actually start looking for your venue now, book the date, book the photographers right after that, then schedule your e-session.  Unless you don’t plan on getting married for 2 years, this is the way to go IMO.

FantasticFawn:  Ah, I see, that makes more sense in your situation then. I’d start emailing NYC photogs that you like. Most of them have a prepared email with package prices. If they’re over your budget, I just didn’t reply.  Tell them that you’re just interested in e-session prices, which I think is about a few hundred.  Our photog in socal charges $500 a la carte for e-sessions.

As for rain and how far to book out, I’d discuss that with the photographers. THey know best about these things, and if you pick a good photographer that you trust and get along with, they can guide you through any situation. Be sure to ask about printing rights (whether you can get rights to print the images on your own) and download rights (some photogs packages are cheap, but you have to pay to download/print each image with a watermark). I also asked about whether they would run photos by me first before sharing on social media.

Good luck!  Choosing a photog was stressful but turned out to be great in the end for us. (So far, wedding hasn’t happened yet.)  I love the photographers we ended up booking, and we get along with them very well.

Ours were thrown in free with our photographers package.

I was hoping we’d have a nice fall day, but it was FREEZING and rainy. I’d thought I could tough it out in my shirt, but I was way too cold so I’m in my leather jacket all day (fortunately, it was a super cute leather jacket).

My biggest advice is to double check any props, and be open to suggestions. I’d seen so many cute couples wrapped in a blanket picture, so I picked out our cutest blanket, and brought it with us. Well, it was too small. Definitely didn’t fit around the two of us. Of all of our pictures from that day, the blanket ones are definitely the most awkward. I wish I’d checked the size of it before we went, because I looove the couples wrapped in a blanket pictures.

That being said, my photographer made a bunch of suggestions, and he got some shots I really love. I’m so glad I was willing to deviate from my original plans/shot ideas and listen to him.

Oh — and if you’re going to be so cold you’re miserable, it’s difficult to look warm and cozy. Think warm thoughts, or have a backup indoor location 🙂

im so happy for you congrats! I Live in texas but my suggestion is use up all of the beautiful parks and landmarks in NYC!!!! It was hard for me as i wanted a very fall look and live in hot humid Houston… But I found a park down town that was perfect. Reminded me of central park in the fall.

My advice: Have fun! Practice some poses with your Fiance and look online at ephotos for ideas. We wanted to bring some of our personality in (sense of humor) so we did some funny photos and some serious photos. Try to think out of the box a little.

Hi, so I actually also live in NYC and am getting married in Chicago.  Our photographer offers engagement pictures as an add-on to his wedding package and it’s a pretty great price – for just paying an additional $250, he offered to fly out to NYC and do the photos here.  Just wanted to let you know that it doesn’t have to be cost prohibitive!
