I did a little before a year, so I don’t think so at all!

I don’t think it’s too far! Although I could be biased, we had ours done exactly a year before our wedding. Despite all that time … I still haven’t gotten pictures out to our parents & close friends yet….

We got engaged 7/4/11 and our wedding will be 7/21/12… we just had our e-pics taken on 8/14/11 so a little less than a year, but only about a month after getting engaged. I’m excited to get save the dates out in the mail so I want my pics!

Defintely schedule them early! I started trying to schedule them in early May (almost 6 months before the wedding, thinking I had plenty of time) and with one reschedule and our photographer’s busy schedule, we JUST had them taken last Friday. We’ll be getting them barely 6 weeks before the wedding, so I wish I would have started earlier. You never know how long it will take to get them in your hands!

We didn’t get our engagement photos done until the end of July and we were married in early September–oops. It all turned out fine tho. We obviously didn’t use them for invites/save the dates. But we made a book on Blurb of the photos and used that as a guest book.

Kind of notorious for letting things go to the last moment–I didn’t even See my wedding dress till the Wednesday before my wedding (but that’s a whole nother story).

We’re having ours taken next week. Our photographer said we can do them as early as we want but it sounds like we’re right on schedule 🙂

We got engaged in July 2010 and are getting married in October 2012, and we’re having ours done next Sunday. I think little less than a year is totally fine.

We did ours 2 months before the wedding, and it worked out fine for us. We got the CDs in the mail about a week later, and had plenty of time to do what we wanted with them (table numbers)

This is probably unusual, but we had our taken a few months after we got engaged, knowing we would have a long engagement. They were taken in June and we are not getting married until spring 2014…

But for us, getting them done this early worked. We have plenty of time to do what we want with them, and have plenty of time to recoup the cost too so we can buget for other things.

We had talked about doing engagement photos after we got engaged last September (2010), but then we were always busy and didn’t really get around to getting them done. We were planning to ask a friend of mine to do them because she is recently into photography and wanted to practice taking pictures of people, but we never had free time that lined up.

Then, back in April a girl I used to work with sent me an email saying that she is trying to build her portfolio and get into photography professionally and asked if we’d like to do a sitting for free, we just had to pay for the pictures. So, we had ours done with her on my birthday at the end of May 2011 so it was a year and three monthsish before our wedding. So you’re fine. Have fun with them!

I would think about what you would like to be doing in your photos and then pick a season that works best for that activity. We went for a walk in the woods and played with the leaves so fall worked best obviously. We took our engagement pictures at the end of September and were married in June of the following year.

I would say that it would be best to do the photos far enough in advance that you get them back or at least can see them before the wedding because we learned so many things from the e-session. It helped us be more comfortable, and we definitely learned what not to do in photos to avoid looking super awkward like we did in a few of our e-pics lol.
