Has anybody done this? Do you know how one would go about getting clearance for this or approaching a movie theatre manager about this?
My fiance is really into films and proposed at an old movie theatre in our college town, but the photographer is in LA and we need to shoot down there. Is this something the photog should ask the theatre or should I? Do you think it would work out lighting-wise??
Any input, experience, or suggestions are very much appreciated!!

A movie chain would present quite a challenge but luckily in LA (where I live too) there are so many small art houses. Here are a few theatres that run older movies:
Beverly Blvd. (west of LaBrea)
Fairfax Theatre (Fairfax and Beverly)
Art House in Los Felix..
There are a ton. My first call would be Cinespace in Hollywood- they rent out their space for tiny screenings and parties. I bet they would bend for an engagement shoot.

That is such a unique idea. I’m imagining all the pictures in my head right now. You guys in the film room, eating popcorn in the seats, him cuddling you because you are afraid, the awkward arm-wraparound pose, popcorn fight….
Please post them if you do get the chance to do it. I’m sure the smaller theatres will be more that happy to let you borrow the space

What a great idea!!! I think the pictures would turn out wonderfully!! Your best bet if it is a chain is to ask the General Manager, if you stage something for early in the morning where there isn’t a lot of people I am sure they wouldn’t mind, and be sure to send them one of the pics as a thank you some places really appreciate that stuff.
