FutureMrsJRC:  Assuming you’re having a photog for your courthouse wedding or family affair next year I would suggest doing the E-pics because they allow you to get comfortable with the photog and ensure that you like his/her work.  If you’re not having a photographer or wouldn’t be using the same photog for the e-pics skip it, obviously you don’t need to use them for Save-The-Date Cards and E-Pics are really forgotten after the all-important wedding pics come along!

FutureMrsJRC:  Yes to photos! We did some in the summer and are doing more this fall. You will not regret having nice pictures of you and your FI/DH. They don’t necessarily have to be engagement pictures though, you can take honeymoon pictures, or pictures after you’re married then display them at your intimate celebration next year.

I personally love taking photos so I may be a bit biased; however, I think it’s never a waste of money to document this exciting and wonderful stage of your life! I’m so happy that I have really nice photos with my Fiance and I’m sure you’ll feel the same way if/when you see yours. πŸ™‚

FutureMrsJRC:  I wasn’t going to take engagement pictures because we couldn’t afford it, but then I won a free engagement shoot through a contest. Now that I have them, I am so happy we did them! Its so nice to have professional pictures of the two of us. I say do it, no matter if you’re engaged or married!

Personally if I were in your position I would get the e-pics since it sounds like you are not planning on having a big ceremony, it would be nice to have that little something extra special to get you through until your family and friends get together. πŸ™‚ This coming from someone who is not planning on having e-pics to help cut costs.

Professional engagement photos are not really necessary to getting married. You can take plenty of lovely but spontaneous pictures of the two of you with the help of friends or nearby strangers. I’ve asked plenty of people to take impromptu pictures of us, and people are happy to help.

Fiance and I are also having a simple ceremony later followed by a small celebration, and we’re having a photographer at both. We’re not doing professional engagement photos because we are frugal and have accumulated nice photos of us throughout our courtship. We also got engaged on a weekend trip, and random people were thrilled to take pictures of a newly engaged couple!

if it’s in your budget – go for it! it’s a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and get to know your photographer’s style. it’s also a test drive – i have friends who booked a photographer, did their e shoot and then decided to part ways because they were awful – much better to have found that out before the wedding! our e pic disc is being shipped to us today, we’re so excited to see them. my fiancé and i have been together since we were 18, but have so few nice photos of us not at birthday parties, bars or with a drink in hand πŸ™‚ it’s nice to have a few more formal shots to give to family and have in our home.

I don’t see any photos as a waste of money. Memories are precious! If you can afford it, do it!

FutureMrsJRC:  YES! If you’re having a courthouse wedding, it will be nice to have a professional set of photos made of you two. You’ll be thankful twenty years from now that you did it.

FutureMrsJRC:  I view them as a waste of money because they all come out horribly cheesy. I have never seen ONE good engagement photo that didnt looked forced.

But that’s just me πŸ˜‰
