We got engaged last July and we took our e-pics today. I wanted to do them in the fall but Fiance wanted to wait so he could lose some weight. Here’s why we did them:

  1. We don’t have any nice “professional” photos of us. Or really even any that are nice enough that I would want to use them for anything wedding/stationary related like custom stamps or a guestbook.
  2. They were included with our photography package.
  3. It gave us a chance to work with our photographer before the wedding so we could get used to being in front of the camera and how he works, and also so he could get to know us a bit better.
  4. I wanted photos to use for above mentioned wedding stationary 😉

They’re not for everyone, I totally get that. A girlfriend told me point blank that she thinks they’re ridiculous and useless. Bully for her, but I’m excited about my photos darnit!

You can get them any time before your wedding. Right up until the day before if you want 🙂

Our main purpose was to practice working with our photographer. I am extremely shy, so I never get my picture taken. We are also going to put one in with the save-the-dates and we will have one on display at the wedding in the guest book area. We also don’t have any pictures of us together, so I thought it would be a nice excuse to get some nice shots.

I am definately not photogenic and my Fiance doesn’t like to or know how to smile in photos either, but I have been told that our pictures turned out fine. Here is a link, if you want to get an idea of how we did. I was extemely nervous and I am also very shy, but our photographer got over a 100 pictures of us. And they will be something special that we can look back on. My Fiance even said after we finished that he had fun doing it.

We had a longer engagement my fiance and I — and we knew it would be. We didn’t take our engagement pics till we actually began the wedding planning process and booked our photographer for the wedding. They offered an engagement session with the package we purchased.

I think it serves a few purposes — it gives you professional photos to use for any announcements or wedding decor. It also gives you and the photographers a chance to work together before the day of the wedding — it gives you both a feel for one another.

We are very shy on some levels and we laughed alot but ended up getting great pictures and having fun doing them. Our photographers were fun too! So I say if its included, why not??

Note however you may have to buy the prints still!

Thank you. My Fiance didn’t want to do them either, but I went ahead and booked us and picked out our clothes, and then I told him that I thought we should do them, so we would be more comfortable getting our pictures taken at the wedding. I told him it was a practice session. He was not totally happy with the idea, but once we got started, he loosened up and had fun. And I also told him that it was included with our package, which it was, so why waste the chance to have nice pictures of us. I think that you would be able to convince him, if you present it as an opportunity to get comfortable with the photographer, and you are paying for it anyway, even if you don’t get them done.

I am not going to do bridals because I don’t think it is necessary for us. Our photographer will be able to get separate shots of both of us on our wedding day.

We had photographer nightmares, so we didn’t take ours till 3 weeks before our wedding. We were taking them to get comfortable with the photographer, and have some shots for a sign in or guest book and general nice shots together. We’re an older couple, and I have been worried about too many wrinkles, etc. showing, and being nervous. I’m much more comfortable after taking them, and was amazed with how they came out.  Our photographer had to cancel, but he still did the engagement shots. Even though it won;t be the same photographer, I think we’ll feel more comfortable. I put together a book to use as a guest book with some of the shots mixed with baby pictures.
