I live in scrubs and my Fiance lives in construction boots. We have no fashion sense. We also have no pics together that aren’t selfies so we’re super excited about our engagement pic sesh at the end of this month. We have 3 kids and will be shooting with them too that day (they are staying for 45 min then g-ma is taking them). We have no pro pics of the 5 of us and won’t be able to afford a photog of her caliber for another 10 years lolol. No pressure though
No matter what we are gonna have to go out and buy outfits 🙁 Please share your family photos, couple pics, engagement pic and ANY tips you might have on chosing outfits! I’m just lost. I NEED your inspiration! That and I just love looking at pics <3

mrsbrizz2017 : I was actually proposed to while a hidden photographer started our engagement photos. However I told my fiancée what I was wearing “to dinner” that night and she asked what she should wear. We like to….not necessarily coordinate but to look good together. So I was wearing my little black dress and she wore a black polo and jeans. You don’t have to wear fancy outfits, we went with a similarity theme. A “flow” if you will.

Coordinating but not matching. Avoid white (it’s tricky to photograph). No patterns or fussy garment structure, and long sleeves if possible.

mrsbrizz2017 : That sounds like it’s going to be a great time and I’m sure you guys are going to end up with wonderful pics! I don’t usually dress like how I did for my engagement photos, but I liked the look so just went for it and I love how the pics came out. Whatever you choose, just make sure you’re comfortable as that usually comes through in pictures. Please show us what you decide on! 🙂

These pics might be big, I apologize. SO! We got family photos done for my mom’s birthday, and then had engagement photos done. For our family photos we picked a “cool” color theme – basically nothing matchy but everyone had to stay in green, blue, purple, grey, black. We had some patterns, and everyone wore long sleeves (more flattering!) and layers are EVERYTHING if you don’t have a model body (none of us do!).
For our engagement photos, we did one country outfit (FI is super farm boy) and one not country outfit (bc I’m not country and I wanted one photo in my life without his cowboy hat on! 😀 ). Once again, long sleeves and layers are your friends. Nothing too flowy if you’ve got some chub to hide because it actually makes you look larger in photos. In the green shirt i was wearing, I think I should have made a more defined waste by tacking it in the back or something.

My photographer friend had us wear jeans and a black top. Best pictures ever.

cbee2017 : I love those outfits!! Thanks! I was considering a patterend maxi (off rent the run way) so these tips are very helpful!! I had also considered a white flowy short dress too thinking it would be flattering. See why I shouldn’t be allowed to dress myself lol
hband : So cute and thanks for the tips. I was gonna do something baggy. You saved me!
CinqueTerre : LOVE your outfit!!!
lesbimarried : So cute!! That’s what we’re going for too. Not too matchy matchy but coordinated.
