So we did our engagement pics this afternoon/evening– and I feel like we probably got some really good pictures! I cannot WAIT to see the outcome! The weirdest part was when this stray cat that found us in the park! He was pretty young (not full grown, and was also super skinny) but didn’t look unhealthy really and was suuuuuper sweet. He kept rubbing up against our legs, so freaking cute! It was all we could do to not bring him home (although Fiance said on our way out he saw someone near the gate holding him… so hopefully he found a home!)
As someone who has done a lot of thinking about pics though (and actually taken some epics) I was kind of surprised by some things I didn’t know/think about! So I thought I’d share some tips I wish I’d known!
1) take flip flops if you plan to wear heels! I was SHOCKED at how much walking we did. I wore heels and thought meh… I can stand in heels for a few hours. But it wasn’t standing! It was hiking around a park, through grass, up and down hills…. it was challenging in heels anyways and my feet and legs are KILLING me!
2) take water! i didn’t want to take a purse so we really had nothing on us. We were out there for two hours and making out on camera can be very parching! (not to mention hiking, in heels, when its in the high 70s)
3) eat first! Its hard to be lovely when you’re hungry! Our pics were at 5 and I thought they’d take about an hour… so we didn’t eat. Well they took 2 hours and we forgot that we skipped lunch (late-ish breakfast) so ummmm we were STARVING.
So that is really it. Despite being really uncomfortable by the end we were still in good spirits and hopeful that our pics came out great! But I really put zero thought into our personal comfort and I wish I would have so we weren’t in so much pain by the end of the night.

Thanks for the tips… Those are deff things that I just wouldn’t think about, but make so much sense… Bringing water?! Of course! But I never would have thought to do that!!
Did you guys get pics with the kitty? Poor little guy, I hope s/he finds a home!!
Glad you guys had a good experience… can’t wait to see the pics!

@TinyTina: lol omg so many pics with the cat! the photog was a cat guy too so he took lots of pics just of the kitty. then some of us with the kitty. we all kind of made a deal that if the cat followed us back to the parking lot one of us would take him… so cute! (but really glad he didn’t bc 2 cats and 1 dog is really enough pets! lol)

Totally agree with eating first….our E-pics were at 10 AM and lasted a little over 2 hours – I was STARVING by the end even though I had eaten breakfast around 8 AM! I was definitely just ready to be done by the end of the day because of that fact. And agreed about heels too – we did ours in a park as well and there was soo much walking/climbing on walls/ standing/posing/etc and at the end I was just ready to take them off!
Cant wait to see the pictures!! Im sure they turned out lovely 🙂

I forgot to bring my lipgloss with me, and I noticed about halfway through that it had worn off :P.

OMG can’t wait to see the cat pictures! Good advice, though we didn’t really end up walking around enough to warrant flats at my epics. Good idea for city pictures for sure.

Thanks for the tips corgitales! Ours are coming up in a few weeks so those pointers will be helpful.

@CorgiTales: eat first!
I planned to eat peanut butter. Something that will stick but won’t swell me up either 😀

I can’t wait to see how they turned out!
Good advice, my feet were also crazy sore after all the walking we did. They would have been difficult to take on and off, but I ended up walking home barefoot. Across Lake Shore Drive. I don’t recommend it!
I wouldn’t have eaten anything more than a piece of fruit first, though. I get the weird “food baby” look otherwise.
Really hope the kitty found a home! Was it in any of the pictures?

TOtally agree with your tips…if I had had water and a snack, I would have been a much happier camper during the last 30-45 minutes of epics! Can’t wait to see yours!

@lilyfaith: oh yea, totally! the photog took prob 40 pics of the cat solo and probably another 50 or so of us with the cat. He was seriously SO cute. and he kept following us! That is why I told fi if he followed us all the way out to the parking lot we were taking him (but he didn’t). We did tell a park ranger about him and she said they know about him but every time they try to pick him up he bites (which we didn’t know because we didn’t pick him up, just pet him on the ground)…. but still Fiance thought he saw some ladies at the front gate with him when we were leaving… so here is hoping he found a home! I’m sure he was just grumpy from being hungry too! And btw I ended up walking out barefoot too haha.
So morning after annnnnnnd…. i’m still sore! lol My legs especially. I’m not used to doing grassy hills in heels so I don’t think those are often-used muscles. I feel kind of ridiculous being sore from getting my picture taken 🙂
