My fiance and I just decided, after not thinking we’d do them, to get engagement pics taken. An old friend does photography on the side and offered us a great deal, and we figured we’d go for it!
Our wedding is October 2013, in our favorite season, FALL, in an apple orchard, reception in a rustic restored barn.
We’re going to do our pics this coming October at an apple orchard closer to us, and just wondering if anyone who has gotten engagement pics done already or will be getting them, has any suggestions for us. Right now I’m trying to figure out what I should wear?! Do I go casual like I would when we go apple picking every year (one of our favorite activities!), or dress it up a little bit (what would that mean though?). Will dressing up look too out of place in an apple orchard, or is it special and unique? We aren’t going to be a matchy matchy couple, but we want to coordinate. Any ideas on this and what kind of shots to go for would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

I just took my engagement pics about 3 weeks ago! Our photographer gave us a couple of helpful hints: Firstly, he suggested we bring a change of clothes. So we did half the shoot in jeans and the other half in “dressier” clothes. And at the end of the session, we threw on our college sweatshirts because that’s where we met and we had to do a couple corny pics :o). He also suggest I wear more blush and lip color than usual, because it will show up better on camera. And he said don’t be afraid of bright colors and patterns for your clothing! We didn’t match, but didn’t clash either. Sorry the pics are so big!

Definitely bring at least one change of clothes. We changed twice and had two different settings:
These are things we’d normally wear, so it looked natural and not too made up. For fall, layers always photograph well (so like a collared shirt under a sweater, a blazer, etc.). Wear coordinating colors, but not matching (unless you’re going for the matching thing like @JEL2013!); try to pull colors from one outfit into the other (for instance, he’s wearing black and grey in the first photo, which go with my dress, and then his tie has blue stripes).

We just had ours done and Fiance wore jeans and a tshirt – exactly what he wears on a regular day. I wore jeans, a one-shouldered top and red heels (mostly because I love those heels and wear them every opportunity I can…) It just worked out that we wore coordinating-ish colours — I actually had a red shirt on til about three seconds before we left LOL. We also took some in our football jerseys because we LOVE football. They were outside, and I felt like it looked more natural than wearing dressy clothes in an outdoor setting, and we were comfortable so we got better shots, IMO.
