@KimmySumShuga:    “-I want someone with experience with the challenging lighting of the beach/ocean/harbor”

DSLR cameras don’t  have the dynamic range to shoot in those conditions and render a proper exposure on the subject and capture a blue or colored sky.   Sometimes the sky is replaced in post processing, but the correct way to do it is to bring portable studio strobes to light up the couple on a properly exposed sunset in the background.  Not all photographers do this for an engagement session, esp natural light ones.  And since this equipment is expensive, a pain in the arse to bring and setup, time consuming, and requires skill to operate, these photographers are typically not cheap either.

I’m sorry I can’t give advice on the photographer choice because I really don’t know much about it.  But I truly think your engagement pictures are awesome.  If they have a good wedding portfolio, it should be fine.  You can also give them a list of things you want photographed at the wedding.

You won’t get that pretty sunset with all the colors look if there are no clouds in the sky! I learned that on my wedding day.

I think your photographer captured the connection between you and your Fiance.  It shows up clear to me when I look at your photos.  =)

Unless I’m reading incorrectly, it sounds to me like you brought up the prop ideas during the photo shoot.  You really need to clear these ideas with your photogs in advance!  I know it was short notice, but emailing them the day before and letting them know you want X and Y in your shot will give them time to prepare their schedule and timeline for the shoot.  Because you wanted that sunset, you were racing against the clock and there are only so many photos they cen get before the sun goes down.

I think your pictures look amazing and really capture your relationship.  I’d say keep your photogs and just be better prepared for the wedding!

@KimmySumShuga:  Definitely put together a shot list and give it to your photogs all at once, not whenever you find it.  This will help them (and you!) stay organized.  One peice of advice I’ve heard is that when you suggest a photo you want them to do, pull from their portfolio, not other people’s.  That way you know it’s a realistic shot for them and something they feel comfortable shooting.

I’m using my FI’s uncle to save on a photographer he has all the fancy camera’s and has taken great pics! I started my must have pics list months ago! Our ceremony is in this HUGE garden I took 150 pics myself so I went thru all those and made a list from shots I want in the garden…then when we drove to our reception site we went around the area and added to my list for there also. Now I’m just searching sites for some more must have ideas! I know with this list I will get every shot I want and heck I can throw in a few that I think of during the moment! Plus I bought disposable cameras for every table during the reception so we can get shots there as well….and I will have a photo-booth that I’m making for extra shots. Honestly with some prep work I don’t see how you can get bad pics, and honestly how often will you look at them? I’m also giving two people camcorders to record the ceremony and key moments at the reception I think watching film is more interesting to re-live the moment then just looking at still pictures. Good luck!
