I stumbled upon my e-ring before he proposed. I initially didn’t like it AT ALL. But by the time he proposed (6+months) later I loved it.

When I changed my setting twice, my fiance was frustrated at first and just didn’t see what the big deal was.  I felt guilty telling her that was what I wanted to do, and asking if it was okay. She shook her head in disbelief that I was so picky, but said it was ok. She called me a diamond diva, etc. I kind of hated myself for not just sticking with the original (which btw I helped pick out, but it was online so I didnt see and therefore couldn’t make a fully educated decision).

In the end, her opinion was “i spend countless days choosing the perfect stone, but do whatever you want with the setting” (to the degree it doesnt look like a completely different ring altogether). I basically got a different version of the same style until It was just want I thought it should be.

At the end of the day, after all the setting drama was done, she is happy I got what i wanted and agrees that I chose the best setting to show off her great diamond choice.  I feel a twinge of guilt knowing its not the exact ring she proposed with, however, we both know the right choice was made.

Give him time. Then maybe change the setting to your heart’s content. I’d stick with the original diamond though, and then the sentiment of the proposal isn’t lost. BUt I do understand how you feel. He’ll get over it if you chnage it up a bit. Good luck, keep us posted, and pics would be great!

Also, I felt better about it because since I helped choose the orginal setting, it was my own decision I was second guessing, not all hers. If my fiance chose it all on her own, I dont know that I would feel right changing anything. Its a hard situation but you will  get through it.
