Once you stack a band with it, a 4 will probably fit well actually.  It is super annoying he did not pay attention though.

When you get your wedding band, you could always get that as a 3.5 and wear it on the outside so it blocks the e-ring from falling off. Until you have a band you could wear a ring guard. You can also get little beads attached to the inside of your ring so that it is not sized down but the beads make it a snugger fit. This has been recommended to me as a way to “size down” your ring without actually removing any of the precious metal that you paid for! I hope that you find a solution that works for you!

I had my e-ring taken down to a 5 3/4 but with a wedding band, I will need to have it made to a 6 or 6 1/4 🙁 try yours with a wedding band, then decide

OP, given you feel sentimental about the ring already, I would definitely just go down to a 4, and add speed bumps. Then, if you get a wedding band and it feels too snug, you can just remove the beads, or even have them shaved down a bit, otherwise, just leave them in.

I know someone above mentioned speed bumps are only temporary but I think the speed bumps are fantastic and for me they are definitely a permanent option. I had beads once that I hated as they were not comfortable, but turns out they were just not well done. The ones I have now are more like tabs than round balls and so comfortable that I don’t even notice them.

I have slightly larger knuckles than the base of my finger, and fingers that fluctuate in size a lot over day, so a ring that fits over my knuckle (and won’t slide off) means a ring that slips, slides, and flops all over the place on the base of my finger a good part of the day (especially when they are top heavy as most of mine are). Even when I wear a band, while it makes the first ring fit a bit snugger, it does not stop the sliding or flopping. Speed bumps/beads mean the ring can be sized to “fit” like the smaller size I need at the base of my finger, but there is room there for swelling and to put on and off over my knuckle.

I don’t find the beads uncomfortable at all when wearing – they hold onto the soft fleshy underside of my finger (if the bottom of my finger was the “6” on a clockface, the bumps are at about the “4-5” and “7-8” ) and the ring does not spin or slide. They can dig in a bit if I slide the ring off over my knuckle straight on, so I just turn my ring at an angle so the beads are sort of on either side of the side of my knuckle bone and it comes off fine.

I would go for speed bumps like this:

Instead of ones like this:

I’m actually a 5 or 5.25, but my grandmother’s ring is a 6. I wear it occasionally and it’s rather comfortable and has never fallen off. I even requested my e-ring in a 6. Are you sure a 4 wouldn’t be okay? Like other bee’s have said with the band it might be okay. I say get it resized to a 4 and go from there.

This is my ring. the beads are so comfortable I don’t feel them. You need a good jeweler who will put them in the right size for you.
