Mine cost $7,500 he was thrilled! Our budget was $10, 000. I really think it just depends on your lifestyle..you never want to start off a marriage in debt!! I’ve seen some pretty amazing rings on the bee that cost under $2000.

Our budget was $1000, and rather than going for a plain setting, I got the one I really loved and got a smaller stone, and maybe before the wedding we can upgrade it. 🙂

I didn’t want to spend a huge chunk on a ring, it just seemed silly to me, but when we started shopping we realised that our original budget wouldn’t get us far, so we agreed we would both pay towards it as that seemed fairer and doubled our budget. That gave us £1500 ($2500), which was opened up far more options to us. In the end the ring I picked would have taken up the whole budget if I had chosen all diamonds, but I decided on a ruby centre stone, so we were able to get my engagement ring and the wedding band I wanted for $2500!

He had set a budget of 4500, but I kept falling in love with more expensive rings and getting frustrated. After a while, he ended up doubling my budget… But the very next day, I found my dream ring for a RIDICULOUS deal (right under 4k). We later got it appraised at almost 8-9 k. Score!

I was there when he purchased it, but we also bout my wedding band and his. For both my ering and wedding band it was about 5k. I totally did not mean for him to spend that much, but he refused to give me a budget saying he wanted me to have a nice ring. He is the one who insisted we get the nicer center stone which added another 1k to the price tag. I was really trying to keep it cheap but I am am totally in love with my ring!

My original ring cost $520. Our budget for the replica was $4k if just my OH paid, or $4.8k if I chipped in. Most quotes were coming in around the $4k mark, but we managed to find someone to do it for much less: $2800.

Very pleased with what we paid.

I dont know for sure but I do know that he had to spent double the amount of my last ring in order to trade back in. My first ring was around 6k so I assume that means my new ring is 12k at least. Thats definitely not typical, at least not in my city but it wasnt my choice and I do love the ring so its fine with me if hes fine with paying for it.

South African poster here, so our diamonds are a lot cheaper than the states and also I don’t know what the exchange rate is :/

AimanMani: no it’s perfect as it is, I have such a soft spot for diamonds alternating with sapphires as my promise ring is a teeny weeny eternity ring with alternating stones

rashmirambiritch: Thank you very much. <3 I had a feeling me I would feel serious ring envy because of how small my diamond is, but I love the way it looks on my finger

My SO and I have recently gone ring shopping and I have fallen in love with 4 different rings/ring settings. They all cost between 4 & 5k total for warrantys tax etc and 2 of the 4 came with wedding bands included. At the start I was really thinking under 2k and that anything over is extreme. I have been engaged twice before. They were both rushed engagements as iwas only 17 and 23and they both ended up badly. I am now 28 (almost 29) and have been with my SO for 5 years. My first ER was $1200 for a set and I had picked it out. My second ER was only $500. I hated that ring but its what he wanted so I accepted it. My SO is in a really great plac financially so I was able to up the ante lol. He wont /hasn’t given me a budget and says that when I hit my limit, I’ll know it. Lol our first ring store he picked out a beautiful ring in platinum with a load of diamonds for $10k. I thought he was out of his mind but he said he would ‘work it out’. So my ‘limit’ may be 10k or above but I won’t push itthat far. I almost cried to him yessterday saying how I felt very strongly about him not spending over 5k on a ring. He also said he wants to pay completely up front and not deal with any sort of credit card or payment plan.

I don’t actually have the ring yet-it’s currently being made. But our budget was 3k. That’s about half a month of my SO’s salary to put it into perspective. He was willing to spend much more than that (the traditional 2 month salary metric) but I already had a heirloom diamond to use for the center stone so that didn’t seem necessary or wise. The setting cost about $2,400, and he got an awesome deal on 2 diamond channeled bands ($500 a piece, worth $800) which he bought at the same time, so we came in just under budget with three rings to show for it!

That said, we got the appraisal back for the center stone today and it came out to being worth a little over $26,000 We were both shocked, to say the least! Never thought I’d be rocking a 30k peice of jewelery-that’s more than I make in a year!
The center stone is a gorgeous antique cushion cut 1.63 carat diamond, F color VS2 clarity (am I doing that right? lol!) It was passed down to me from my nana, who I adored, so it holds a lot of sentimental value. Here’s a (kinda crummy) pic of it in the old setting, before it was cleaned up:

    And here are the bands:

I can’t wait to see what the final product looks like…the anticipation is killing me!
