prettyinpinkish :  If you drove all the way from Seattle to Portland for a Voodoo doughnut, you have bigger problems.

“What am I, a fancy prisoner?” is one of the funnier things I’ve read here.

I had a pony once, it was vicious. Bit my mom on the ass and then went to live at a farm*.

*My Dad maintains he really did go live on a farm and wasn’t used for glue or horse meat.

Pony stuff aside, it sounds like you’re kind of freaked out over something small. So he didn’t find one joke you made to be hilarious. Strong relationships can weather that.

If you’re worried about him, then talk to him. Not sure how anyone here will be able to give you better insight into how he’s feeling than him.

Also, getting married is about your relationship. Who gives a **** if your family has expectations. It’s about what you two want to do. Just stand up for what you actually want (which I hope to god is not a pony).

Okay legit advice, it’s clear a traditional proposal isn’t for you. But what about your boyfriend? Maybe he really does want to do the whole ring, down on one knee, kind of thing?

And maybe he’s stressed because he already bought a ring and you’re kind of shitting on the whole idea.

It’s one thing to make a joke and be a little taken aback when you don’t get the reaction to it you were counting on, but I mean, you straight up say in your original post that you were *not* joking and had several rebuttals to his extremely rational and understandable concerns about a pony proposal. Maybe he didn’t think it was a joke because you didn’t treat it like one. I mean, you sound serious about it to me. I feel like you’re just saying it’s a joke here in the thread now because people agreed with your partner that it was an insane idea.

prettyinpinkish :  well after four pages of posts post we finally what you are actually worried about in this situation.

You really were not clear as to what the objective of your post was. You included a lot of unnecessary and confusing information and honestly I’m not surprised your SO is acting weird and probably scratching his head if you used the pony as a way to say you really didn’t want some big whacked out traditional proposal with a ring. This would be not what you want to hear if your the guy in the middle of planning a traditional proposal for your Girlfriend. He may be planning one and you caught him off guard.

You need to sit down and communicate your feelings on this matter and maybe leave the jokes and pony out of it.  You also need to gear him out. Maybe he wants to be more traditional with wedding stuff? Either way you need to talk about it together.

As for your family… Do what you want. Don’t let them determine how you live your life.
