Doing “the vegan thing” would actually mean NOT wanting to use animals as entertainment/props. I doubt there are charities that *need* animals. Quite the opposite.
Maybe think about the animal’s needs instead of your wants and settle on something that doesn’t involve the welfare of an animal?

prettyinpinkish : “likely be donated to charity later”…what?!? You do realize you’re talking about a living, thinking, feeling being…right?!

rubyhagen : lmfao……really? refer back to pages 4,5, or 6

samanthrae414 : You do realize that I have already clearly stated 6 or 7 times over that is wasn’t about, or even about proposing at all really….refer to pages 4 and 5 with any questions.
Also, and this is more to just educate you on the possibilities, there are tons of places that need trained therapy animals which mini horses have a history-making great service animals.
A fully trained emotional support animal cost anywhere between $5k to $10k, more if you actually want to train it for a service task so I am sure there are tons of PTSD survivors who would love my donation.
People usually overlook psych services animals, but they are life-changing for the people who suffer from mental illness.
It is actually quite horrific, one of the trainers I work with told me about a family who was trying to find a service animal for there kid because he had a peanut allergy and they wanted a peanut-sniffing dog. Well, some asshole sold those poor people a dog, claiming it was trained and of course it wasn’t.That happens all the time because it is unregulated so these breeders can claim whatever and depend on the contract you may not even have any fiscal recourse.
People take massive advantage of the service animal industry, it is really quite sick. It’s not even that much training either. I mean frankly, for a psych service animal for PTSD, the most common task is “grounding” to pull people out of panic attacks or nightmares and retrieving medication.
I know all of this because I actually do part-time non-profit research hunting down cheaper support options because most people with a need can’t afford an animal and even if they could or go to a shelter and luck out by finding an animal that won’t flunk out of service training, the training is ridiculously expensive.

Where the heck did you get 3x paycheck? It’s 2 months salary.

prettyinpinkish : You are all over the place in this post. Your exact words were “and yes, I am dead serious.” Then you say the whole pony proposal thing was just meant lightly and imply that SO ‘s atypically unenthusiastic reaction to what was just in fun is your issue.
Then you were 75% serious.
When you got negative feedback because people were justifiably confused or critical of a poorly thought out plan involving a live animal, the story kept changing. Now we’re back to donations of animals being a great idea.
Maybe SO occasionally is just not in the mood for this.

prettyinpinkish : One second you’re buying a pony for a proposal like it’s an inanimate object and the next you’re patronizing everyone with your charitable expertise on training service animals with inane babble about PTSD and mini horses….lol wut
Post # 98
I guarantee there are far more charity operations rescuing neglected ponies and miniature horses than there are people actively seeking them for therapy. Hands down. Let it go. Please.

Fitzy : First, providing information is only patronizing if you take it that way, most people don’t even know the psych service animals or the cost involved are a thing so making the assumption that this isn’t widely knowing the information is not presumptuous. Also, your reading a tone into that isn’t there since I am pretty much the least catty person ever.
Second I clearly stated multi-able times it wasn’t about the pony, but my family being controlling dicks and my partner’s company actively trying to kill him by working him 24hr straight so again, it is not about the proposal.
Infact, we have decided he isn’t proposing at all and we are likely just gonna take a gap year, that is newish info that hasn’t been previously stated not that I think you actually read any of my other responses….
daisy123: Cool story? I am 100% sure there is a need for free trained service animals, which isn’t really a charity but still a real thing and I am not seeing how anything you just said has that has anything to do with my response or why you keep bring up a pony.
Do you think I have a pony? I have a cat and a large stuffed unicorn(it’s not a real one, so don’t be freak out because I would never stuff a real unicorn) but no pony so I am not sure why you’re so focused on this pony concept…..
Also, let what go? Are you trying to argue with me? Because you aren’t even referencing my response and going on about charities and ponies in a manner totally unrelated to what I said.
So arguing would be something along the lines of you stating something like “Service animals aren’t real!” or “There is no need for services animals!” or “Ponies can’t be service animals!” which would be direct references to the points I made in my last post and then I would respond with links to sources and then you would likely go on about ponies but I wouldn’t respond to that with more sources because that would be redundant and pointless.
Anyways, this has been fun, hope you have a great day! I am gonna go nap before keeping my partner company while he devs the freak out of some ops….it’s funny because he is sr. dev ops which I am now realizing unless your tech industry you won’t likely get it though you might because dev is obviously development and ops is clearly operations while sr. is kind of self-explanatory. It is actually not that funny but I already typed it and deleting it now is more effort then typing this… I’m gonna go

janedoe27 : My family, like everyone I know in the south…Anyways some say two, some say three but three is a thing also. If you google it, I am sure you will get both answers because I did google it after you asked since I hadn’t heard of it ever being two months salary.
Not that we would ever spend that much on jewelry, whether it be two or three months. Anything over a few hundred is excessive if you ask me, but that is just my personal preference which is biased because I don’t like jewelry.

prettyinpinkish : a gap year? You mean, after all of that, you guys decided that you are going to split up for a year?
nifer317 : a gap year is when you take off and travel for a year. I would switch to working remote 100% of the time and he would take time off and study up so he could make minor career changes when he gets back in the states.
It’s insane because I could support us abroad in a bunch of different places with just what we pay in rent. This way, we could top off our savings so that we have enough for a down on a house.
It’s that or I start a petition to try and change the labor laws to create an hour max for exempt employees, which likely wouldn’t catch traction anyway…

weddingmaven : I was venting and made sure I picked a site that conflicted with my lifestyle(being open ect )and personality( awkward and silly af) so no one would actually catch on to the sarcastism resulting in super negative/abrasive at me so I would have to repeatedly explain my situation.
After reading you guys rip apart people for way less, I figured the level of hate I would get for my over the top explanations of what happened would help me think.
Which while he did get mad at the pony suggestions it was less about the suggestion and more about he has been irritable over silly shit for days. Like he snapped at me for offering him a bj the other day, for example. He apologizes immediately but it is still a sign that the work bs is eating him alive because he is stoic and calm naturally.
Anywho….the repetition in turn would help me brainstorm and look at the problems objectively and come up with a solution for my two very real problems, my family’s continued abusive sexist behaviour and his soul crushing schedule.
I still haven’t figured out a tactful to deal with the family thing, I did however figure out how to give him a partial vacation so he can redirect his career. And I also got a giant stuffed unicorn out of it.
So the only people tired of my shit is you people, my partner, on the hand, thinks I’m awesome.
I also owe you guys a huge thank you, without having to repeat myself over and over, it would have taken way longer to come up with ideas! So thank you!
Now if anyone wants to help me with the whole family thing by explaining why having a expensive ring and a huge wedding is important to you I might be able to figure out a way to appease my family without shelling out $$$ for all that jazz.

And you do realize that very few animals are temperamentally suited for any kind of therapy work. And since you are so knowledgeable in this area, you, of course, understand that it requires an expert to evaluate a potential service animal.
About the only thing you’ve said so far that makes sense is your comment about the amount of fraud in the service animal industry. I must agree on that. My first love (I don’t breed them, just study bloodlines, own them, train them, and love them) is working line German Shepherds and I am painfully aware of what goes on.
