hi all. This is my first here and I’m sorry it’s a bit of a negative one. I got engaged 2 months ago but had to have my engagement resized about 2 weeks later, so about 6 weeks ago now. it is 9kt White gold and was taken 2 sizes smaller from a p to an n. It was rhodium played after being resized and looked fine when I picked it up. Now 6 weeks later, am guessing after the rhodium has maybe thinned slightly on that part of the ring, I’ve noticed a line on the underside of the ring. The line is quite distinctive on the outside of the band and feels like a deep scratch if I run my nail across it. On the inside the line is faint but most definitely there. I’m worried that the jeweller has done a bad job and perhaps weakened the ring. Can someone tell me if this is normal or should I take it back to be fixed. Thanks in advance.

louise.kent.12: Hi there. This is definitely not normal. I had a similar problem with a ring that was meant to be my engagement ring. It was 10k White Gold and arrived with yellow/orange spots and white marks that seemed almost like water stains that didn’t come off with cleaning or polishing and it turned out it needed to be dipped in rhodium. For other reasons, the ring was eventually returned for a refund.
Is the jeweler that sized your ring the same jeweler that sold you and your FI the ring? Even if this jeweler is your original jeweler, they don’t sound like they’re very trustworthy, so I would take your ring somewhere else that gets good reviews and recommendations. It definitely needs to be fixed though.
Is there any way you could post pictures of your ring so I could see the damage?
I hope things get better soon and your ring is back in tip-top shape!

I use to have a ring that had a noticeable sizing line and it did eventually break in that spot. It took about 1.5 years of daily wear before it snapped. But yes they need to fix it for you because it is a weak spot.

Welcome and congrats btw!

Thanks for all the replies. It isn’t the same jeweller that we bought the ring off. I can’t get a picture because the line is so fine. Thing is I know its there now and it will worry me and Make me use my hand differently which I shouldn’t really have to. I’m going to ring them this morning and see what they say. Is there a chance that any kind of “fix” could make the damage worse?
