The diamond itself isn’t small, but I think that particular setting isn’t doing it any favors size-wise. The way it’s set hides the diamond instead of enhancing it.

If you love it, it’s perfect. There’s no right size/style of ring.

isabel49 :  I don’t think the diamond size itself is small, I live in the UK too and a 0.5 is quite generous in my parts (particularly in such a setting too). I think the only part that bothers me is that the setting and the main diamond don’t mesh well together for me. I think the main diamond gets lost in the setting, instead of enhancing the diamond it looks lost with the band.

If you like the setting that’s all that matters. To me, the metal seems to overwhelm the diamonds.

To this Australian it looks pretty perfect in size. Do you love it? If so, stop worrying!

Agree that the setting hides the diamond.

It looks a beautiful stone but maybe the setting is a bit clunky for such an elegant diamond. A setting like the tiffany solitare setting would look amazing I think. Anyway 0.5ct is fine. My dad’s fiance has a 0.25ct because she works for the NHS she needs something she can put gloves over. Hers is set in a thin gold band.

I agree with previous posters. I think the diamond itself is a perfect size (generous by many people’s standards, at least where I”m from in the U.S.), but the setting is kind of chunky around it and obscures it. Perhaps you could get the diamond setting changed a bit so it was a cathedral setting. I don’t know how hard it would be for the jeweler to change but I wouldn’t think it’d be that difficult!

isabel49 :  Really though, what does it matter? Either you love it, or you don’t. What we think does not matter!

mine is the same size as yours and i never seem to worry about it being too small. Sometimes i come to the boards and i get a little envious of all the BIG BLING on here though. :/

I think your ring looks beautiful on you.

Also: keep in mind you will be pairing it with another beautiful ring – your wedding band! The bling will grow ( if you’re concerned – which you shouldnt be) 🙂
