So I’m trying to decide on the ring that I want but the only one available in the style I want is a 10x8mm center stone with a halo I love love it but I’m afraid it’s going to be too big and look tacky my ring size is a 6.5 I really need help!!! I just want it to be perfect this is the ring!

Depending on the stone, 10x8mm is about 2-3 carats. I think it’s a matter of personal taste — do you like it on your finger? It’s hard to tell in such a close-up, but it looks lovely (and the ring is gorgeous!). I have a 6mm (.75 carat) aquamarine, surrounded by a halo, which brings the total width up to 8 mm, or the size of a 2 carat stone. I love it on my 7.5 finger and wouldn’t trade it for the world!

how big is the halo? i’m also a 6.5. my center is 8×6 with a 1.8mm halo – overall dimensions 12×10. so my stone is smaller than yours, but i also have what’s considered to be a rather “chunky” halo.

If it feels comfortable on your hand and you can afford it then its not too big.

8x10mm oval is 3 carats, right? That + a halo of diamonds seems really large, imho. ‘Tacky and gaudy’ are so fraught with judgement, I would never say that – and I’m sure it’s a lovely piece – it looks very pretty in the picture! (though proportions are hard to tell).
Personally, anything much over 2 carats starts to look very costume jewelry-ish to me. Again, just an opinion I know you asked for – don’t hate me! 🙂

I have a 9mm round and it has a 1mm halo. It’s definitely a lot of ring, but I would not call it tacky. I think the one you tried is beautiful, but you have to decide whether it’s too much bling for every day.

It looks gorgeous – definitely not too big!

I don’t think there is any such thing as too big. My center stone is 3 carats, 10×8, no halo. My finger is a size 5. It is a large ring, and sometimes people comment. But I love it.

I have a 3 carat solitaire on 5.5 fingers and I don’t find it too big or gaudy. If it’s comfortable on your hand – go for it!

I wouldn’t want a ring that big simply because I would be so scared to lose something that expensive, but if you can afford it and you like it, go for it! It’s beautiful!

I agree with thessely. I personally wouldn’t go above 2 cts.

I have a 8×10 rectangular cushion aqua (comes out to 2.92cts) on my 3.5 finger. I definitely don’t think it’s too big on me…I love the finger coverage.

I have a similar ring but my center stone is smaller at just a little over 5x7mm and I have a delicate halo similar to the one you posted. I wear a 5.75 ring. Here’s a photo for reference, hopefully it helps in your decision!

Thanks for all the help!! It’s such a big decision and I love the idea of a big ring and it’s deffinately lovely!!! It’s an online order which is the hard part I looked in store for a similar ring but they don’t have much at your basic jewelry stores!
