Um….. in that case all my friends with diamonds would have to defriend eachother on facebook, twitter, instagram and throw shade at each other at every girls night out.  No one can wear a white mermaid dress after my friend’s wedding in 2009. We drew up a contract.

Who cares if your friend has the same stone, go for what you want! Your mom will get over it.

ChristinAlex:  I understand that you’re very mindful of others feelings but this isn’t about your mom or your friend.  It’s about you and your FIance!!!  Who will your Fiance be purchasing the ring for and who will be wearing it???  Definitely not your mom or your friend.  Do as your heart desires and what makes you happy as it sounds like this beautiful sapphire ring that you chose will keep you smiling as you wear it with much love.  I absolutely love sapphire but Fiance and I chose to go with diamond (lots of diamonds) but one of my stackable wedding bands will be blue sapphire alternate with diamonds.  When my mother saw my engagement ring her first words to me weren’t, “Wow, congratulations I’m so happy for you!”  Her words were, “How much did it cost?  I can’t believe he would spend that kind of money on something you wouldn’t be able to get full value for if you sold it.”  Though my feelings were hurt in the end it didn’t matter what she said or think because the ring isn’t for her.

That’s really silly. Ignore your mom and proceed. You really didn’t need permission from your friend either.

What?!? Your mum is being a bit nuts. Just get a bloody sapphire. Does your mother have a totally different stone to each and every one of her friends? Personally I’d be telling her to stay out of it, or just go get your ring without asking anything further of her opinion on your choice.

ChristinAlex:  If it’s in bad taste to have the same stone as someone else we are all tasteless lol

ChristinAlex:  I think that’s nuts. If you were getting a diamond would you have to double check with everyone who know who has a diamond? It’s a f*cking stone.

ChristinAlex:  your mom is being crazy.. There’s no reason you can’t get a sapphire just cause your friend has it. And clearly your friend is awesome and doesn’t care! That ring is AMAZE-BALLS too…. You definitely need to buy it!!! It’s just WOW!!!! Can’t wait to see it on you! And congrats on your engagement. Now go get your ring!!
