You should totally get a sapphire! Your mom’s reasoning makes no sense – otherwise everyone who has a diamond needs to unfriend other diamond wearers who got engaged after them @jily I’m side eyeing you right now lol! And also your friend has to apologize to Kate Middleton and Princess Di for swiping their ring style (stone and all) Lol!

First off, congratulations on your engagement!

Your mom’s reasoning doesn’t make sense at all (plus, your friend didn’t mind you getting a sapphire either). It’s your ring so get it! It’s beautiful! ๐Ÿ™‚

ChristinAlex:  what does anyone else’s ring have to do with yours?  Get what you want its your ring not anyone else’s.

ChristinAlex:  that ring is amazinggg… if your friend had a diamond solitaire would that eliminate you from getting one as well? NO. Tell your mom to take a xanax and order the ring! ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t have anything to add, advice-wise, but just wanted to say HOLY CRAP THAT RING IS GORGEOUS! I don’t often get “ring envy” but I would seriously have a case of it if I saw someone wearing that. It’s perfection.

ChristinAlex:  Who cares?  It’s YOUR ring. I think it’s beautiful.  Think about it like this, there are a bajillion diamonds out there, but no one gets mad at the fact that they have the same ring.  Look at TheGridMonster and MrsBuesleeBee, same ring, but if anything they are praising and complimenting each other on their rings.  I think that your friend being supportive is a good thing, it means she thinks you have good taste too ๐Ÿ™‚

That is so silly! How many people have diamonds? If I had asked everyone I know who wears a diamond for permission to wear one too, I would have been asking for permission from SO many women before getting engaged. Ha! It’s not really your mothers place to control the type of ring your fiancé gets you. Maybe if she were the one paying for it her opinion would matter a bit. Get what you want. It’s between you and your fiancé.

Is your mom actually upset over something else? Would be so silly to worry about having the same stone as another person when the majority of people have the same kind of stone, a diamond. Tons of people have sapphires too… That’s the definition of a tradition.

ChristinAlex:  Your mom can suck it. 90% of brides have diamonds and no one cares that it’s the same stone as their friends. Don’t let her dictate what you wear for the rest of your life!

ChristinAlex:  Not at all, it’s what YOU have YOUR heart set on. Remember, you’ll be the one wearing it. I say go for it!

if it was insensitive then everyone who has diamond engagements rings, like their friends woukd be in trouble. Get what makes you happy. It’s a type of gem, just ecause she has one doesn’t make it hers. Congrats on your engagement and don’t worry about it. I wanted sapphire in mine too so I got a sapphire halo ๐Ÿ™‚

I could perhaps understand your concern if you were talking about getting the EXACT.SAME.RING. That can and would bother a lot of people.

That being said, saphire is not something she owns and something only she should own (your friend – but not like she is really disputing your purchase of one anyways). If they are different styles, why not? That ring is really lovely!!!

I know how it feels to have a controlling mom that you somehow want to please Lol. My mom is the queen of planting seeds of doubt. You just need to stick to your guns and do what makes you happy. You and your Fiance are making this decision together. Don’t let anyone else get between those happy feelings.

Awesome – you got a ring pop proposal! If I were a guy I would totally want to do that. Love ring pops ๐Ÿ™‚

I second what everyone else said. It is in no way disrespecting your friend or being insensitive. It is your ring and your c0hoice. go for it!
