If you are sentimental, You will get the best bang for your buck by picking a shape of stone, and asking him for a solitaire…then later in life you can add a wrap or put your stone in a different setting or whatever you want to do…Hope this helps!

@suzie_l: first of all, congrats! how very exciting. one of the ways to start is to just get out there and try on a bunch of rings. all different shapes, and settings. then you will have a feel of what you like and what looks good on you. after you figure out what you want, you can then start researching to get the best deal.

@suzie_l: congrats, that’s great news! there is this thread that has abunch of rings on there for less than $500.00. It’ll give you an idea of lots of stuff that’s out there in that price range:)

Also: start looking through ring threads here so you can see different styles…I’m sure if you see something you like and you PM the person who owns it, they’ll tell you how much they paid & where it’s from

Yay ring shopping!

You’re “supposed” to spend however much the two of you decide is a good number Laughing. Get on some websites (like blue nile) and see what you like to get an idea of what’s realistically in and out of your budget.

Also, other stones are good options if you want to spend a lot less, but not have a teensy stone. I’m a sucker for moissanite, but I also have an alexandrite ring that I love, and sapphires are big right now.

Yay, congratulations!!  Don’t look at prices, for now.  Look all over the bee, jewelry stores, try stuff on, and find your dream ring and go from there.  It may be that you find a ring that costs $300 is the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen, or you may fall in love with one a LOT more.  If it’s the latter, you can always get creative with the center stone (IE, moissanite, white sapphire, white topaz or a gemstone with color) and still have the ring you fell in love with!!  Good luck!!  POST PICTURES lol
