- Wedding: May 2012
He proposed on December 19th, 2010. We went to the Biltmore and it was our Christmas because he and I were spending the actual 25th with our separate families. We had gone to this place on the property (there’s 8,000 acres) and it had an awesome panoramic view of the mountains and stuff… the sun was setting. Well, he planned to do it then but he chickened out.
After we left there we were heading to the car and he started laughing and grinning like a goofball. I asked him why he was laughing he said, “Nothing, just cold.” and I was thinking he was soooo weird but I just let it go. J On our way to the winery on the estate, I had told him that I wanted to take some scenic pictures because I didn’t have the chance to while we there the first time (over the summer). I pointed out this little pond that had a gazebo and he kept going & then all of the sudden he just pulled over.
There was a waterfall that had a bridge that went over it. I was busy taking pictures of the waterfall. He randomly spits over the side of the bridge into the waterfall… I thought it was gross, but was thinking, “boys will be boys.” I’m taking more pictures and turn around to him standing with the ring box in his hand. He said, “I have one more Christmas present for you.” and I asked, “What is that?!” He opened it (obviously a big diamond ring was in it). He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes. He said, “You will?! REALLY?!” J It was super cute. We just both sat there stunned and excited. I didn’t cry but I think mostly because my stomach was somewhere in a different universe.
I talked to him later and he said he was so nervous when we were on the bridge pre-engagement that he kept telling himself to act natural, act natural, act natural… which led to him spitting over the edge? Apparently that’s “natural.” hahaha He said he just didn’t know what else to do.
