My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and are living together. He plans to propose and we are going ring shopping on Monday to pick out the ring together. In my early 20s I was engaged with a solitare ring, so wanting something different this time.
I’ve been spending most of my free time looking at rings online and picking out which stores to visit on Monday.
When I look at engagement rings on online stores, I get dress rings in the search results. Some dress rings look like e-rings, is there a difference? Does it matter? Just curious. As a few of the rings I have picked out to show my BF are dress rings that look like e-rings..

I think my e-ring would be considered a “dress ring” from the store I bought it from because its a sapphire, not a diamond. As long as the metal you choose is durable (i.e. not sterling silver) I would say use anything you want as an e-ring, no matter how it is labelled in the store!

any ring given as an engagement ring is an engagement ring, it’s not the ring itself, its style or its stone that define it’s meaning but the sentiment with which it was given and received.

I don’t understand what you mean by dress ring? Are you searching for “engagement ring” and you’re getting results that you don’t expect?
Any ring can be an engagement ring if you get engaged with it. Mine is silver and has onyx and ruby on it. My fiance’s is a band made out of tungsten carbide and has a sapphire in it. There are people on this site that get just bands, some that get diamonds, some that get gemstones, some that get pearls. It doesn’t matter what you have on your ring, it’s an engagement ring if you use it to symbolize that you are engaged.

That’s what I thought 😊
The couple of rings that I have picked as favs are dress rings.. It doesn’t bother me.. Just curious 😊

Hmm.. i thought an engagement ring is the ring future husband used to propose, doesn’t matter how it looks like?

Personally when I hear or see dress ring I think of CZ, glass or non genuine stones.
But an engagement ring is just a ring, but given with the intention from the given to marry the receiver and a symbol of how those two people are committed to the relationship
Would love to see what rings your looking at.

I’ve never heard the term dress ring until now. Is that the same as a cocktail ring? Regardless, any ring can be an engagement ring if given during a proposal 🙂
