My engagement wasn’t ‘perfect’ either – we travelled from London to Bruges on the Eurostar, which was severly delayed, and despite paying for special seats in the premium coach, they changed our seats and sat us apart. We arrived at our hotel, hours late, at around 1am. Needless to say, it wasn’t the best start to a short weekend away! BUT, we got up the next day, and had a fun but sleep deprived day, and when my boyfriend proposed in the evening, all the earlier problems seemed irrelevant.
Please try to separate the negative from the positive. We just laugh about the awful start to the trip now (and have also pledged to never travel by Eurostar again!).
In terms of the compulsive thoughts about death, I agree with the others and think you should find a better counsellor as it sounds like it’s stopping you being able to enjoy just living your life.
