I learned to travel simple.  I have a simple silver band that I wore when I travel.  Although the ring is insured, I would be sad to replace it.

I have learned to turn my stone inside whenever I am in unfamiliar environment.

I took the opposite approach.  I didn’t want to have an engagement or wedding ring that would cause me to feel unsafe while wearing it.  We didn’t have engagement rings, and have only plain gold bands for wedding rings.  While the symbolism is important to us, the economic cost of losing one or having it stolen would not be overwhelming.

My best friend did this for her honeymoon in Mexico.  She said she felt like an idiot as soon as she got there and realized that the resort was like a bubble.

I bought a cheap $20 set at Overstock.  I did it because I knew we’d be spending alot of time at the beach and in pools.  I didn’t want to damage my ring with sand or chlorine (chlorine causes pitting on the surface of gold) and I didn’t want to loose it.

I absolutely love my engagement ring and it’s an antique, one-of-a-kind piece that if lost or stolen, even if insured, would be technically irreplaceable. It feels weird to get a “faux” set, but I do travel farely frequently, and my FH and I do go to a lot of beachy, active places, and we are planning to go to Spain and Morocco on our Honeymoon, so for less than $100, it seems worth it to not have to worry about losing my rings or getting them stolen!

I’m not a fan of getting an imitation ring for your honeymoon. However though FI’s brother on his honeymoon lost his wedding band (which was a diamond one and not very cheap) in the ocean swimming, so they bought a cheap one for him to wear until they could get a replacement, then when he came home and got the replacement he lost it about a week later at a campground in a fire. So really you can loose your ring anywhere and at anytime!

I just got back from my honeymoon and wore my ring the whole time – Granted it was in Hawaii so very safe.  But I wore it doing everything – swimming, snorkeling, ziplining…had no issues with it.

I have been thinking about leaving my ering at home. I do have insurance but I take my ring off A LOT and dont want someone to break into our hotel room and steal it.

My engagement ring belonged to SO’s grandmother and I didn’t take it with me when we vacationed in China, nor will I take it with us when we go to Egypt for our honeymoon…its just too precious to me!  🙂  We’re having a small custom wedding band made to go with my e-ring, but it will officially be my “travel” ring, as will my fiance’s plain band, and we’ll use those when we travel.  Since the travel rings are special to us as a symbol of our shared values, we plan to wear them for a year, and then upgrade on our first anniversary.  Sounds odd, I know, but we’re both pretty thrilled with the plan.
