As a lot of your probably know about me by now, my boyfriend and I decided to go with moissanite for our engagement ring. I know there is a lot of curiosity about moissanite on these boards, so I thought I would post a review!
BUYING FROM MOISSANITE & CO: First I would like to talk about my experience with moissaniteco.com. Since I first discovered moissanite about 6 months ago, moissaniteco.com’s staff and their forums have been extremely helpful to me! They have a live chat on their website (here is a picture of it’s location on their page) It’s available weekdays during their hours of operation. I must have asked a million questions through the chat and each time I quickly (as in a few seconds) got an answer back from one of their staff.
After lurking their forums for months where I was able to see tons of reviews and pictures from happy customers of theirs, I decided moissanite & co was where I would order my moissanite from. Another reason I chose moissaniteco.com is because they are the only company (That I know of) to offer the enhanced stones. Moissaniteco.com’s enhanced stones have a permanent treatment done with a combination of heat and pressure to whiten the stone a couple of shades. My only concern about moissanite was the color… I was really worried about a green tinge, so getting an enhanced moissanite seemed like the best idea to me.
So, on Friday November 19th in the evening, my boyfriend and I placed our order for a 7.5mm (1.5ct equivalent) enhanced moissanite stone. Just one business day after ordering (So on Monday the 22) my stone was shipped via Fedex International Priority! It arrived the very next day! SUPER fast shipping, considering I live across the border in Canada too!
The stone was very safely shipped. It was inside a a cardboard box inside a bubble mailer. Inside the cardboard box was a ring box with a special plastic case inside which held the stone.
After such a good experience with them I will definitely be shopping at moissaniteco.com again (I want earrings and my wedding band will probably come from there too!) I give their service a 10/10.
MOISSANITE IN GENERAL: Upon looking at my stone for the first time, I knew choosing moissanite was an excellent decision. The stone is gorgeous!! It sparkles very beautifully in all kinds of lighting. I’ve had the stone for almost a week now and I’ve looked at it everywhere (In various bathrooms, in the sunlight, on overcast days, ectect). I would say the stone looks best under my office’s lighting for some reason (It sparkles like nothing else there!) but it also looks fantastic in direct sunlight too. The stone looks it’s worse on overcast days. I wouldn’t say it looks BAD, but it seems lifeless. That said, I doubt a diamond would look more brilliant under the same conditions.
As for color (which is what I was most worried about with my moissanite), I can honestly say I do not see any color in the stone at all most of the time. In the overcast conditions I think I can kind of see the light, buttery color some people talk about but it’s so faint I wonder if I am just trying too hard to see something that is not there. I definitely see no green in the stone at all.
I think the sparkle of moissanite is really want makes it fantastic. It definitely has gorgeous fire. I can see the entire color spectrum in one flash!
If someone had shown me this stone I would have assumed it was a diamond. I think most people would think something this sparkly and this colorless is a diamond. I haven’t tested yet if it is truly passable as a diamond (My boyfriend and I are not showing the stone to anyone until it is set and we’re “officially” engaged), but I really think it is. I looked at it next to some similar sized diamonds in a jewelry store and I couldn’t tell the difference at all.
All in all, I am EXTREMELY happy with my moissanite!
(btw, I stuck the stone on my finger using blue tac haha)
