From what I have read on here about Moissanites, anything above 1 carat greatly benefits from enhancement because when they are that large, it is more obvious if they have yellow or green in them.

I don’t understand why people on this board are obsessed with moissanite…. it’s just like CZ and all the ones I’ve seen become discoloured and foggy over time.  It would be worth waiting on a real diamond!

@OmigoshesGrrrl: People like you are misinformed and it’s a shame you don’t do any research before posting anything.

Moissanite is NOT CZ. It’s a mineral that was found in a meteor and cannot be found on Earth. It’s found in such small amounts, it’s not enough to make anything out of. So scientists studied it for years and years and finally came up with large moissanite crystals and were told by a gem cutter (He worked for Tiffany I believe) that if it were cut right, it would make a brilliant jewel. So that’s what happened.

Moissanite DOES NOT cloud like CZ and is just as hard as a diamond. No one is “obsessed” with moissanite. It’s a different stone and people just want to learn more about it.

You will get a certificate just like you would with a diamond and C&C guarentees that it will stay brilliant for life.

As for the enhancement, some say you should do it after 1.25 and some say you should do it at 1.5. The reason for this is because the larger the stone, the more color it will show.

If you visit the betterthandiamond.com moissanite forums, you will see tons of photos of enhanced and non enhanced stones. I have a 1.25 enhanced, but there are some bees on here without enhanced stones. Good luck! PM me if you have any other questions about facts. ^_^

I have .5c diamond nexus earrings (which is just way overpriced cubic zirconia) and a 1.5c enhanced moissanite e-ring.

I LOVE the ring a million times better than the earrings. I can actually tell who knows anything about diamonds, cuz the people who DO know about diamonds and have seen a lot take one look at my ring and are like, “omg, that is the most beautiful ring I have ever seen!” and grab my hand and study it, and are like, “who IS this guy?!”

(the people who don’t know anything about diamonds or see a lot of e-rings, like my mom, see the ring and are like, “oh, that’s nice.” lol.)

the cz earrings, compared to the ring, are NOTHING. (supposedly moissanite starts to have more color the bigger it gets, which is why I am pointing out that the bigger ring actually looks much better.)

don’t “wait for” a real diamond… my ring is waaaaay more beautiful than ANY of my friends diamonds!

(omg, I sound like a moissanite advertisement…) 😀

Thanks!  I was misinformed, I guess, but my coworker said hers has changed a lot since she got it- that is where I got my information from.  I don’t know if hers was enhanced or not- what does that mean?

@OmigoshesGrrrl: Older moissanite from the 90’s may have shown color because it was still new and they were perfecting the process. Moissanite purchased today will not cloud.

Mine is a 1.1 and is enhanced. I had read that anything over a carat needs it, but since I’ve been on WeddingBee I’ve seen people say anything from a carat to 1.5 carats…

I haven’t had mine very long, but I wear it pretty much all day every day, and mine only loses some sparkle when it’s dirty. Other than that, it shines all the time. I’ve looked at it under several different kinds of light and it never looks yellow.

@OmigoshesGrrrl: Moissanite is changing just from like 3 months ago.  A new brand called Mira, I believe, will be coming in the near future.  It’s nothing like CZ.

Mine is 1 carat equivalent non-enhanced, it does show some colour occasionally only when for example the weather is cloudy and foggy (read: all the time here 🙁 ) but when you get it under sun or inside lighting… It is amaaaayzing. Even then the colour is not that bad, it’s not like people look at it and go “ew yellow” it just makes it look warm, if that makes sense…

I’m not sure how it works with bigger. But it is only $100 extra per carat so it’s not really going to hurt anything to get it done anyway…

My moissanite is 1 carat round, unenhanced, and honestly, about 95% of the time it is completely clear. On the other hand, it’s in a white gold bezel setting, which I suspect makes it look more clear/white than it might otherwise. It’ll look not so awesome if I let it get dirty, and sometimes in a car on a cloudy day it looks a tiny bit gray, but that’s it.

But then, it’s not a 1.5, so I can’t say for sure about your question. My impression is that the current moissanites are pretty close to colorless, but if you are very perceptive of stone color or you think it would bother you to occasionally not be totally blinded by it (they are awesomely sparkly), then I’d say to go ahead and get it enhanced.

@Miss Tattoo: Well said! Thanks for being such a great moissanite rep haha.

I have a 1.5 enhanced moissanite (or will soon). I have seen it unset and set and I think it looks great. I also have a J colored diamond and it is whiter than that. However, if it were unenhanced, I’m sure it would be slightly warmer on the color scale. I think it also depends on your personal preference. If you love warm stones, then don’t enhance it. If you like colorless, the enhancement is worth it. I hope this was helpful!

I have a 1 carat enhanced moissanite stone in my Tacori setting. It is stunning and I chose the moissanite over a diamond because I love the way it sparkles. Yes, it sparkes with color and I love that it does. My stone has never gotten cloudy and looks great next to the DEF side diamonds. Hope This Helps 🙂
