    The biggest I would ever go is 2ct (my finger is size 5), and I think 3ct can look good on some people but I think anything larger than that looks gaudy.

    Also, I just hate to think how much money that cost. I guess if he owns a jewelry store he probably got an okay deal, but still.

    @Baileyh:  I don’t really get the idea that it’s distasteful….

    Lots of people wear rings this big on a regular basis.  Kate Middleton for example.

    My ring isn’t nearly this large but it is 4 carats and I don’t think it’s distasteful that I wear it all the time.  It’s the ring my husband gave me when he proposed to me, and I’m proud to wear it, just like anyone else.

    It’s beautiful but there’s no way I would ever wear anything like that! I’d be too afraid I was going to loose it or someone was going to steal it or my hand was going to fall off.

    I have a lil’ bony ring finger (5) as well, and I cannot imagine wearing anything over 2 cts, and even that is really pushing what I think looks classy. One carat looks big on my finger.

    I cannot imagine wearing something fake that is this big either. I guess it would have to look proportionate with my fingers/hand. I don’t wear skimpy or oversized clothing either. The look is just goofy!

    I’m not that into diamonds, but MAYBE this could be a right hand cocktail ring. But I’d have trouble taking it serious as a engagement ring…it’s just too much.

    @bakerella – It’s a beautiful ring, but I would think it’s fake too. looks like costume jewelery.

    @Treasure43: Ditto to all of the above; Im freaked out about having a single carat on my hand to be stolen- I dont think I could wear something like this in public (which honestly takes alot of the fun out of it I assume?)

    @Moose1209: may distasteful is the wrong word, but i dont want to say “gawdy” as i dont want to offend anyone…i think its gawdy though…a little much.

    @BaileyH- I totally agree with you.

    I tried on a heifer of a ring at Cartier when we were in Vegas, and all I could think was YIKES, this ring could buy some poor people a house.

    I guess that’s why I think big rings are …not so cool, because it’s like showing off how much money you have to toss around. But I am from Minnesota, and we tend to be pretty modest people.

    I would worry about getting robbed, and (sadly) what people would think.  I feel shy sometimes with my quality 1.5 carat- especially where I live.  I think people would judge.  (Unless I was butt-blowing wealthy, and even then.)  I wouldn’t really be comfortable with it, and I wouldn’t want other people to think I had a large fake ring on.  (This is just me, so, that’s just how I feel about it.)  I am not into being flashy or showing how much money I have/ or don’t have.  I am a t-shirt and jeans kinda girl, who will always drive a Ford no matter what I can afford, just like my Grandfather who was a well renowed specialty physician.

    i think a diamond of that size would look better as a solitaire.  the halo puts it over the edge in my opinion.

    and to answer the question, while i’m sure it’s amazing to have a diamond that big, it seems almost too much for every day wear.  but can’t really know until you have it i suppose!
