It’s from Mean Girls. I forget not everyone has seen it 20 times!

When we were shopping we looked at rings in a variety of sizes.  2.5 carats would be my maximum (and ideal).  3 looked like too much.  I currently have 1.9 carats which is average in the city I live in (major metropolitan area).

That Facebook update from the guy sounds like he’s trying to prove himself. If he was confident in his choice, he wouldn’t have felt the need to broadcast his choice and try to explain that he only did it for love. So…what did he do? That’s a “I’m trying to get out of trouble ring”
Or maybe he is trying to make up for something lacking….

WOW! What a dazzler! I have to admit that I voted “no” on the poll because I don’t wear much flashy jewelry as it is, so something that bold wouldn’t be quite my style. I’m more of a pearl stud earrings and small diamond pendant kind of gal;) I got a gorgeous round solitaire on a plain band (probably less than a carat but I honestly have no clue as to what the “stats” on my ring are), and I’m really glad he went in a direction that suited my style.

That being said, every girl loves her engagement ring, right? Big, small, flashy, understated…they all mean the same thing regardless of size. I don’t live in the best neighborhood so I would terrified that someone would cut off my hand to get the ring, but if you live in an area where that isn’t a problem and your man has the means to buy you something to knock your socks off, go for it!

Also, I have size 5 fingers so something that substantial might wear me instead of me wearing it! Either way, rock your ring and don’t be shy!

@Mr. Tattoo: Sounds to me like he genuinely loves her and wanted to get her a ring he thought would suit her best (like many men want to do when they love a girl and want to marry her). He custom made the ring with their initials and everything. It’s very sweet and personal and he clearly put a lot of effort in it for her. I don’t think he sounds like someone who is not confident or is trying to compensate for something at all.

wow–it’s great that they can afford that, but if I saw someone wearing that I would think it was costume jewelry. Wouldn’t you be afraid of damaging it by wearing it every day? Or that someone would know it was real and mug you? No thanks to a diamond that big! I will be happy with what I get!

I get what Mr. T is saying. I’d be pissed if he tried to justify his decision on facebook. It’s one thing to say “I love my fiancee” and “I love my fiancee so much, I feel the need to put down other women who don’t have as big as a diamond as she does! After all, step up your game and your man will get you anything you want!!!”

@Miss Tattoo: goodness…. it was never meant as a personal attack. I wasnt trying to post it to be malicious, he was posting it via to the haters,my fb page is private. every girl knows when a man loves her he’ll give her the shirt off his own back and that was his meaning… he got me this ring to show his commitment to me. buying a ring for a woman is a commitment and 2 months salary is usually the rule of thumb when buying an engagement ring.

I’m not sure why all the claws, and snarls… I posted it because I thought it was romantic that he stood up for me as I’m sure many men would for their woman.
