I just totalled up all the children under 15 years of age that will be at my destination wedding and it’s 17!!! O_O!! Thinking of how to gracefully handle this in a semi-covered pavillion…there’s lots of room for them to run and play outdoors and farm animals at my venue, but without supervision this may backfire and I would want their parents to actually enjoy themselves…thus…I think I may end up hiring a sitter 🙁 Anyone else having a lot of kids at the reception? Doing anything special for them? Looking for ideas to keep the tykes busy!! 😀

I am probably going to get a sitter. We have invited about 12 kids ages 1 yr-10yrs. They will probably enjoy dancing and they have a 75 seat theater where they can watch a childrens movie and we have access to the butterfly house for the first hr. Plus our reception is only 3 1/2 hours long. Maybe you could get little “favors” for them based on age (coloring books, mad libs books etc.) to keep them busy.

I would just suggest NOT putting any 13 or 14 year olds at a kid’s table, with the sitter, etc. These are teens and may even be in high school and probably will feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, and bored at a table with kindergarteners coloring and sipping juice boxes. Even 11-12 is pushing it for a separate kids’ section, I know I would have preferred to be with the grown-ups at that age.
But entertainment for younger children is always a great idea! Try searching for “kids table” in the forums, lots of people have made great suggestions. We are definitely getting a sitter to watch them in a room across the hall from the reception, if they tire out at the adults reception. For dinner, we’re offering a kids’ selection and will provide them with coloring books and toys, and will decorate it a bit more kid-friendly!

@Vegan – Yeah, the tweens are less worrisome and autonomous, but the under 12 set (of which I have 13 kiddies) are the hiccup. I might just go with these ladies out of sheer convinience…all the details are exhausting :(:
Anyone used ’em?

Elegrant Event Sitters looks pretty cool…is it only in certain states?
I am using these boxes for our kids and will have all children under 12 at childrens tables (unless they prefer to be with their parents) and all will have childrens dinner instead of the plated adult dinners.
