I am very jealous that you have a Whole Foods where you live and I would cut off a limb for their turkey curry salad!!! *drooling* We live in BFE and don’t have ANYTHING even close to a Whole Foods. Food that is good and good for you around here doesn’t exist… Sorry about the garbage smelling bags, that is so weird! haha

Ah.. I love Whole Foods. Grocery shopping there makes me feel so serene. So much better than the Winco stores with cheap cheap food and screaming kids everywhere.

Unfortunately Whole Foods likes to eat my whole paycheck. lol

@PitBulLover – I completely agree! I am not a Whole Foods fan at all but Trader Joe’s is AMAZING. Some of their foods are cheaper than a regular grocery store, I can pronounce all of the ingredients on the packaging and they have so much stuff that’s so easy to prepare especially on a weeknight when we’re both exhausted! Our grocery bill is significantly less since we started shopping there and we end up with so many more actual meals than we do when we go to the Lowe’s Foods or Harris Teeter. Tonight we’re making pizza with their $.99 pizza dough and their amazing pizza sauce, their fresh peppers, asparagus and mushrooms and a bottle of $3 Chuck Shiraz. Ahh I love Fridays.

Yes! I totally agree. Its way cheaper and IMO has better food. I also just like the feel of their store more. We have one that is walking distance from us and now that its getting warm out I cant wait to walk there! I just bought some $3 buck chuck Shiraz the other night and I love it.

I’m not a huge fan of Whole Foods to be honest. I live right next to a Fairway market which is about 1/3 of the price and much better selection so I feel like shopping at Whole Foods is like throwing money out the window. I also live right next to a Trader Joe’s and while I think it’s kind of cool, I don’t like to shop there because of the limited selection. It’s great for people who don’t like to make a lot of things from scratch, but at least the TJ’s near me doesn’t even have a meat counter and the produce section is super small and very basic.

@PitBulLover I do love the feel of it, it’s very fun. The people that work there are very laid back and always super helpful. At Whole Foods I feel like I’m in a library and I have to whisper and the people there are definitely not laid back. The Shiraz is the best. I’m not a big red drinker but I really love their Shiraz and the Red Table Wine. I also get the Santa Barbara Landing Chenin Blanc which is like $4 or $5.

@moderndaisy Yes you’re right they don’t have a huge selection of stuff to make from scratch but that’s what makes it most convenient for us. We can buy premarinated mahi mahi, throw it in a pyrex, bake it for 15 minutes, make some rice, steam some veggies and have dinner on the table in 30 minutes. We buy fish that isn’t marinated as well and Fiance marinates it and it’s only a little extra time. The nice thing about TJ’s for us is that even though we’re not making it from scratch the quality isn’t compromised because there are still no preservatives or artificial fillers. It’s probably healthier than some of the stuff we do make from scratch.

I love whole foods. Yes, it is expensive, but I recently started clipping coupons and now it’s around the same price or less than what I would have spent at the standard grocery store in our area. I like trader joe’s too, but I don’t feel like they ever have everything that I need, so I end up having to go to 2 groceries stores. Plus I don’t ever buy anything that is pre-prepared.

Thats definitely true about limited selection. We do most of our grocery shopping at Safeway (regular grocery store) and then some things from Trader Joes. Trader Joes is good on a night when we dont feel like cooking and just want to pick something up. I will get their veggie burritos and make those or they have a veggie lasagna that I can just pop in the oven for a quick and tasty meal.

ETA – I also dont like that at TJs or WHole Foods you cant buy normal products like TP, paper towels, toothpaste, etc. I mean you can but its not the same quality that the grocery store carries so all of that type of stuff I would get from a regular grocery store.

@moderndaisy: I want to marry Fairway and have its babies (DH won’t mind!). I seriously love it that much. And I agree with you about the TJs on the UWS–it’s underwhelming.

I am a grocery store whore. I love both Whole Foods and Trader Joes for different reasons, but we don’t have either here. I have to shop at the Super Wal-Mart and that makes me sad. I am from Florida so I will always love Publix!!!
